I just got a catalog from Competitive Edge Dynamics, containing an ad for the Saxon 15-45X52 spotting scope.

It’s a Chinese scope, retailing for an absurd $299. CED has it for $90 + shipping and they’re on eBay for $66 direct from China with free shipping. Obviously, it’s not going to be a great scope, but it's the only scope CED sells, so it’s probably not going to be complete junk, either.

Does anyone have experience with these scopes?

Hearing no objection, I bought one for $59 and change with free shipping on eBay.

I'm willing to gamble $60.

There's only one range near here with a 600 yd range and I've never shot there.

I'll be happy if I can see .22 holes at 200 yds clearly.

I'll post an update.

I received the scope. It won’t focus at any distance at any power setting.

I’ve notified the eBay resolution center.

Guess I’ll stick with my 35 year old Redfield spotting scope. It’s big and heavy, but it’s also clear and dependable.

Well, the Chinese are giving me the runaround big-time. They want me to either have the scope repaired here in Florida (good luck finding parts!) or ship the thing to them with a tracking number. Shipping with tracking costs more than the cost of the scope.
They offered to send me a “gift” – but they didn’t say what that was, and they want me to accept a partial refund on an item that’s 100% worthless.

And so it goes …..

Ebay sticks up for the buyer; you can be a con and still get your money back. Run it thru them, you'll get your money back. And you can keep the scope!!!

If you know anything about long distance shooting, a scope is to judge the wind and mirage, not to find bullet holes. The target pullers put the pasters on where the bullets hit. They use a 25 power scope to scope the wind and mirage.
