Say it aint so, NM and AZ Gov declares state of emergency at the border

Folks, if you read closely, you will see that the emergency money is not to do anything about illegal immigration -- it is to pay for the consequences of it (policing theft, doing autopsies, jail keep, etc.).

Yep. It's akin to polishing the brass on the Titanic—but I have a hunch these developments will also strengthen the hand of Mrs. Snopes Clinton, who seems intent upon recasting herself as the heroine of borders.

I well remember May when Richardson said that if the Minutemen came into New Mexico he would have them arrested or thrown out of "his state". Now he is going to "meet with Mr Simcox". It is all for show.

I spent yesterday morning listening to Representative Pearce(R NM) at his 17th and final town hall meeting on immigration. The people have effectively communicated with him. He knows who signs his paycheck now.

Richardson has been gaging the wind from the previous 16 meetings that Pearce has held this month, what do you think made him change his mind?
A fellow with presidential aspirations has to at least appear to be in touch with the voters. He knows who signs his check too.

Want some cheap entertainment  ? Take 3-4 friends with you and go to the courthouse and re register to vote, with no party affiliation :) . Go to your rep's and senators' local office and let them know what you want. Show them your new registration card :p . Go right in and tell whoever is there. Don't sweat it, the secetary will pass the message. Communicate effectively :cuss: . Then go immediatly to the Democratic/Republican party chairman in your city/county and tell him no more donations  .

It's almost as important to you as the IIA.
Did you see that footage of the Israeli's being evicted from Gaza today  , think Tuscon/El Paso/San Diego/Phoenix/LA in 2030 .

Just heard on the radio that NM plans on using the emergency funds for overtime, new hires in law enforcement, equipment and better fences for cattle grazing areas.

Said the cattle grazing areas are getting destroyed due to illegals coming thru and leaving trash.

I think the money can be better used for the first three items above. Not for the cows.

This farce will end only with, first, a tax revolt by American citizens, then a more serious revolt. The forces that want--in fact, insist on--open borders will not be denied except by the most vigorous response. All the rest is empty posturing that is at best temporizing, at worst outright dissembling to keep the serfs quiet.

Bill O'Rielly asked Richardson why he didn't just solve the problem completely and call out the New Mexico Guard. Richardson responded nonchalantly to the suggestion. I question how serious he is about solving this problem.

I believe that it was yesterday (8/16) that Bill Richardson was on Sean Hannity's radio show. It was interesting to hear what Richardson was saying in regards to what he thought needed to be done to address the illegal alien problem. After the issue of the state of emergency was brought up, Hannity started asking Richardson about what he believed should be done. Richardson started making noise about some form of guest worker program. Heavier penalties for employers, deportations, and enforcing existing laws were not something he considered important. He also did not want to have the Minutemen assisting in New Mexico. He went on to say that he had no plans to meet with Mr. Simcox, contrary to what others understood. After listening, it was clear that Richardson was grabbing attention with the declaration, but really didn't want to address the actual problem. He's grandstanding, and looking for burnish his image with voters who have concerns about illegal immigrants, while committing to nothing, when all is said and done. :fire:

FWIW,

We can't even do that. Most of us are wage earners, and taxes are withheld and sent to uncle sugar. We have no way of not paying taxes.

There are always ways, but to get to that point a lot of people will have to wake up to the dire repercussions of just going along with the program.

"According to a recent poll, forty percent of Mexicans would move to the United States if they could. The percentage would have been higher, but the other 60% are already here." - Conan O'Brien.

O'Brien's funny--but in humor lies truth. A sizeable percentage of Mexico--15, 20 per cent--is living here now, and they consider themselves Mexicans, not Americans. America to them is a job, not a country. Are we going to get another fifty million "hardworking moms and dads?" (Thank you, President Bush.) And what is it going to take to stop the illegal influx?

Henry Bowman & Standing Wolf hit the nail on the head....

Gov Richardson's declaration does nothing but throw (OUR) money at the problem. County law enforcement does not arrest/detain/deport illegals for immigration law violations. Who says a whole bunch of deputies WANT to work more overtime? Betcha they'll be forced to work extra hours by their elected Democrat sheriffs to use up the funding and make the Gov look good.

This is nothing more than a couple of liberal Democrat governers trying to ensure their own re-election and thumb GW in the eye simultaneously. Always a good move with their base.

Politics as usual! Fiddling whilst Rome burns.

Still gotta ask "why" now? I smell a political play developing related to the next session of congress. Looks like Democrats are stealing a march on spinelessrepublicans. Ahnuld could do the same but has refused.

exactly, Jorge Bush has handed the dems a massive stick with which to severely beat the repubs and they are going to do just that. the repubs are going to get their a**es handed to them in the mid-terms and it'll be there own fault, because lord knows we've been telling them to do something about it.

Don't forget that Guv Janet is running for reelection.
Not that she has anything to worry about. The Republicans don't have anybody to run against her!! Nobody that has a chance in hades of actually beating her, that is!!! ;) All the leading candidates have dropped out for one reason or another.

Sounds like California. Are there any real Republicans west of the Mississippi? Belay that. We had one here, Tom McClintock, but he was painted as 'too extreme' for California.

So the point of this 'emergency' is just to spend money for clean-up, janitorial work as it were. Great. :(

A clever Dem who's able to silence the pro-immigration "Atzlan" types within the party could completely destroy the GOP candidate in 2008 on this issue. I don't know if anyone will have the backbone to do it though. They're too worried about alienating the latino vote. Though frankly most of the *voting* latinos are as opposed to open borders as anyone else.

Unfortunately, the powers behind both major parties at the national level have a long term agenda which precludes them from doing anything we'd like to see regarding the boarder situation. Their agenda is a unified hemisphere of the Americas under one constitution, just the kind of thing they are working towards in Europe. Eventually, these larger international unions (there will probably eventually be four of them) will be united in a one world government. Being a citizen of the United States will be like being a resident of Maine or Virginia, and will have no greater legal significance. Therefore, regardless of what a Dem or Rep candidate might say during his campaign, no progress will be made that doesn't move us closer to one world government, which has been their goal since the early Twentieth Century. They are very patient, but the direction has been very steady since that time.

Ok, you can start with the tin foil hat and black helicopter jokes now.

Hawkeye,

Let's say you're right. Their argument is that they are spreading peace and prosperity globally and if a few rough edges need to be smoothed out, tough. One of those rough edges would be the protections of individual rights we cherish in our Constitution. We've all noticed that some of the key provisions in our Constitution appear to be missing in action in the new Iraq constitution.

Now what?

Naturally, as they are increasingly missing in action in our own laws, even if not explicitly. They disappear by being ignored or reinterpreted by our judiciary. These protections of cherished liberties must be swept away in order to merge us with larger international unions. While there is a strong middle class, this is very difficult to do, which is why efforts are being made to shrink the middle class, such as the creation of internatioal "free-trade" agreements designed to cause high paying middle class type jobs to pick up and move to India and/or Mexico. Ideally, they want to reduce all but the super wealthy to poverty/government dependant status. Such people are more docile regarding government power, and don't complain when the authentic liberties are done away with, so long as they get government benefits and the basic necessities of life.
Now what?
I have no solutions. Personally, I'm voting US Constitution Party, but I hold out little hope for success. Short of an eventual second secession war, I don't see a good outcome, and probably not even then.
