so i am thinking about building a SBR but putting a suppressor on it also.
if i did both at the same time could i get away with only one $200 tax stamp?

also what should i expect to pay for a sbr AR-15 platform with a mid priced suppressor including all the taxes?

A good quality AR-15 (BCM, DD, LMT, Colt, Spikes) is $800-$1100. A suppressor is $500-$900, plus 2X $200 stamps. So: ~$1700-$2400 for a rifle, 2 stamps and can before adding any accessories (rails, grips, upgraded stocks etc.) or optics. I think the best deal in upper receivers right now is the Daniel Defense deal from www.smartgunner.com

You could order it with a short barrel, but can't possess a short barrel upper and un-registered lower at the same time. You could have the SBR upper at someone else's house (who doesn't own ARs) while the paperwork goes through with the lower at your house.

The best AR to SBR is a lower that's never been assembled into a rifle, so you don't have to play silly games with storing the upper and you can assemble it as a pistol and shoot it while you wait for the Form 1 to be approved.

What if it were an integrally suppressed SBR? The SB and suppressor are inseparable so is it still considered two firearms?

Yes, if the can is permanently attached and brings the length out to 16" I think you can have only one stamp. This would be an extremely rare configuration for an AR15 however. If you want a detachable can on an SBR it will be two stamps.

The only reason you would want to SBR and suppress on one stamp is if you wanted the OAL to be 16+" and have a one host suppressor.

I built this 9mm AR upper with one stamp. I cut the barrel down and built the suppressor so (with the end cap removed) it was 16.125 OAL and fit under the tube. If you do this you must make sure the barrel nut is on before welding the suppressor on.

Another method I have used to keep the rifle/suppressor as short as I could without an extra stamp is to have the supressor go back over the barrel (expansion chamber) and use fewer baffles. This one is a 16" 458 socom. A lot more volume than should be needed but it's very quite and shorter than a pool stick.
