Getting my uncle's worn out Marlin Cerakoted for him for Father's Day, unbeknownst to him, and as he spends much of his time on his property on an ATV, I want to get a scabbard for it. The rifle wears a Weaver 3-9x40, and the scabbard would need to accommodate that. No real need for an expensive leather one or a bulky hard case, just something that'll hold the rifle.

I was thinking of grabbing a Voodoo Tactical Shotgun Scabbard, as it seems like it just may fit. Any other options to look into that aren't full custom leather rigs?

Thanks.

Word of caution, "unbeknownst to him" only because you said that. What you are doing is irreversible and a gun is kind of like an old hat to some, I would find that nice scabbard and enclose an offer for the Cerracote treatment if he wants it.
Could save yourself a lot of family grief.

I agree with Xrap. I have several firearms that to some may appear "worn out." My Ruger Single Six that I've had since 1963, My Dad's Winchester 94 he bought as a teenager in 1920 or his Colt Woodsman. Those guns earned their almost complete absence of original finish and the accompanying patina. All three are fully functioning and well maintained firearms. I would be outraged if my well-meaning nephew arranged to have these guns refinished without my permission. That bell cannot be unrung. Please consider asking before you proceed with this plan.

Guys, the rifle was covered in rust, and he gave it to my dad for the sole purpose to refinish a couple years ago. They both completely forgot about it, and it's sat in a closet stripped of parts since. So thanks for the family advice, but no thanks... I know my family.

No problem, I know you guys were just trying to help.

OpticsPlanet, I believe that's going to be my fall-back. I know my uncle has expressed interest in the scabbard before. The case certainly does offer more protection, though, and truthfully it'll probably last him longer than a Nylon scabbard, but the scabbard was interesting to him.
