Ok, so after 5 months of putting a intercooled turbo engine into a Dodge Shadow, we finally get it on the road, but after running kinda rough under boost, we check the plugs and realize it's running lean. My friend and I decide to go down to Checker's go get a fuel pressure guage, and jump in the ol' Cressida to go 1/4 mile down the road.
I pull onto Park and head towards Checkers, chatting with my friend about what could be causing a low fuel under boost type of situation, when a little red civic doens't stop at a side-street stop sign, and pulls in front of me while I'm going 40 miles an hour, I slam on the brakes and honk, and the guy in front of me slams on his brakes and comes to a stop. Everything slides off my back seat. Big driver, medium passenger. Driver gets out and comes straight at me, empty handed, fire in his eyes. Oncoming lane of traffic stops. Reach under the seat, stuff's in the way. No time- no room to drive around him on either side - check the rear view mirror, put it in reverse and burn rubber BACKWARDS down Park while this guy is running towards my car. I put about 50 feet between us and he stops. I finally get to the .380 under the seat and put it on the dash while he walks back to his car with his back to me. I don't pull forward until he's already going forward. Take the FireStorm off the dash and put it on my lap...
10 seconds of instantaneous decision making will give you and adrenaline rush and a fast heart for like 20 minutes. The guy was about 200, 220 pounds, the passenger much smaller.
Hindsight is 20/20 though, I shouldn't have put the Bersa on the dash though, although it was still in the holster. I should not have let him known I had it until I might have had to use it. Although all in all, I think the situation ended fairly well, I got some space between us and was still driving a 3500 lb deadly-weapon while he was on his feet BEHIND his car... Oncoming traffic was stopped and there was nobody behind me, so a J-turn might have been possible although dangerous on a two lane road.
I noticed his medium-sized passenger was now slouched down in his/her seat. I didn't get a licence plate number and didn't call the police, but then again... I don't think anything other than me having to drive backwards down Park would have involved the police after-the-fact. I probably should have called it in anyways just so they could pull him over and give him time to cool down before driving off to where-ever he needed to go.
