I agree. I also have a 6" 586 (no dash) that is taken out once or twice a year to the range, like today. It is not a field gun. However I own a 4" 686+ that is ideal for the field.

Anyhow good luck. I was always frustrated by the Army. I purchased a couple of guns when I was home on leave and left them with my dad. I also bought a couple of rifles when I was stationed at Ft. Drum. I lived in post housing and just never reported them.

When we ETS'd in January 2000 they just went home with me. By then I was very tired of the Army and the regulations regarding privately owned firearms. As the years have gone by my attitude has changed. Nostalgia will do that. Glad to have served.
