Going on a Winchester Model 70 Classic Featherweight in .30-06.

Of these two scopes, which would you pick and why?

Leupold VX-III 3.5-10 x 40 ($469 list)
Zeiss Conquest 3-9 x 40 ($449 list)

Guyon,

Leupold's support for it's scopes is second to none, and resale value will be higher than the Conquest's. Leupold.

Don

Thanks Don. Both are reasons I was leaning toward the Leupold. Plus, I'd be supporting a quality U.S. company.

I've had both VX-IIIs and Conquest MCs. The only one I ever had a problem with was the VX-III but Leupold was easy to deal with on the resolution. These days, for mid-priced glass, I am tending to stick with Nikon and Zeiss.

On the issue of foreign vs. domestic -- the Conquest is made in the USA also, though the company itself is based in Austria.

Ferrari and Swarovski are also foreign-owned companies...

Leupold. Great scope, great company, good customer service even for their older and discontinued models. Nothing wrong with Zeiss or Nikon, but I generally stick with what works and I have never been in any way dissatisfied with a Leupold product in the 35+ years I have been using them. Gun Tests did several tests of scopes in different price ranges over the last couple of years, though I don't have ready access to the back issues. I would check there to see what they have to say also, they are a great resource.
