Hi all, I recently purchased a Ruger 10/22 carbine for some fun (and cheap) daylight plinking (100yrds) and maybe varmint hunting (on rare occasion). I have been looking into scopes and have determined that I want something like a 3-9x40 AO scope (not neccessarily that specific but just a general idea). Now for a little background, I am a college student and as such I have to be frugal with my money and get an "affordable" (ie cheaper) scope . I would like to stay around 100 dollars but I would be more than willing to go up if the recommendations good. So I would appreciate any suggestions that you all would have to help me out.

Mods: I did post a similiar thread down in Firearms Accesories but it hasnt got any views. I am just trying to find a decent scope in time to shoot with my dad this weekend.

IMO, a 3-9 is overkill for a .22. Pick up a cheap Simmons 4X from Walmart and anything out to 100+ yds should be toast.

The Bushnell Banner "Dusk & Dawn" is a nice little scope in that price range. For < $100 you can should be able to get the required 10/22 base, rings & scope. The AO is a good idea. Also, go to rimfire.com and lurk around. You'll learn more about the 10/22 than you EVER IMAGINED. Have FUN shooting with your Pop. My son & I shot together only last weekend.

You may want to consider a Mueller APV as well. I have one on my 10/22. Street price should still be around $115. Great scope for the money.

IMO, 3-9X is an excellent range for a general purpose .22 lr.

The Mueller APVs have had generally good reviews at RFC for low cost glass.

(To be honest, though, I'm not a big fan of the Chinese scopes. Unfortunately, they are the only ones in your price range. They do OK if you aren't too rough on them and don't mind lesser optical quality.)

Go to WalMart and spend $30 or so on one of the scopes they carry. I put a Tasco 3-9x on my 10/22. The magnification helps when you want some precision in your shooting. At 100 yards a 4x just doesn't get it done for me.

I put a Bushnell 2.5x32mm scope on mine. Nice and clear, but also cheap (25 bucks, but hey, it's a low magnification rimfire scope, it should be cheaper to produce in the first place, therefore cheaper to buy)

This magnification works very well for me. I don't shoot it at 100 yards, but still, I doubt it will matter. It's like an Aimpoint or EOTech that costs much less and doesn't need batteries!*

*Okay, really a big lie there, but they are both designed for, and very good for fast-yet-accurate target aquisition and engagement.

I picked up a Simmons 4-12x40mm at walmart for $60 that shoots great. Just don't get really cheap rings and your never lose your zero.
