Just got an Oly arms 16" carbine and am finding I don't like the smaller sight radius. I want a scope for it to remedy the problem, and need some advice, I usually am not too much of a scope person.
This is what I would like:
1. doesn't need to have adjustable power.
2. 3X or 4X
3. mil dots, or something so I can hold over on longer distances.
4. inexpensive (but decent quality, if it can be done)
5. this will be used mostly for plinking

Obviously I know very very little about scopes so thanks for any help.

Wide open on this one.

What budget are you looking at? Also, since you don't neccessarily want magnification....have you considered dot scopes?

Or, if you have lots of cash and want to be 'cool' you could look into an ACOG system...

You will need to answer several questions as Kamicosmos stated. What is the intended purpose of this AR? What distances do you shoot at? What is your budget? Is this AR going go double as a home defense weapon?

As it stands now the rifle will be for plinking, probably 100 to 400 yards. I'm on a fairly tight budget, but will save up for a while if I need to. Maybe I could find something somewhat temporary untill I win the lotto and can get one of those cool dot sights.;)

Just save up and get yourself an Aimpoint or EOTech, I believe Grant who runs G&R Tactical had some up for sale and some really great prices, I personally have an Aimpoint M2 on my RRA Entry.

**IF** I had an AR :banghead: and I were on a budget, I'd get an Eotech. Aimpoints are about the same price but mounting hardware may set you back.

What have you guys heard about about Hakko, OKO and Burris? More in my price range, and have heard good things about all.

I highly recommend the Eotech. I have one of the AA battery models on my 16" Armalite. Absolutely love it. I originally didn't want an optic that used batteries, but AAs are common, just keep spares in your range bag.

The choice is yours, but I would save up, do some research, and get a decent optic for your rifle. I don't know what they cost, but Bushnell sells a version of the Eotech holosight. That might save you some $$$.

As Skunk mentioned, if you have a flattop AR, no mount is required for the Eotech. Mine was relatively easy to zero too. (50 yard zero is what I use)

have you every considered getting a Trijicon ACOG. Those are some of the best AR scopes I've ever seen for a tactical situation

Trijicon!!!

The TA-31 ACOG is the way to go. IMHO.
