scope rings

Every pair of cheap aluminum rings (and cheap scopes for that matter) I've ever bought has been a waste of money. Cheap aluminum rings won't hold much screw tension, they'll work themselves loose and you'll strip the threads trying to keep them tight. Burris Zee rings work very well, are all steel and not very expensive. So the question is, can you spend $20 on good rings or would you rather waste $12 on cheap rings?

Maybe equipment doesn't make a difference and maybe it doesn't matter. I can tell you that if you're committed to working on accuracy, not in the future but with every shot, you'll get there sooner. I witnessed a new shooter with a rifle far nicer than any I own struggle for 6 MOA. A year later he was posting sub-1/4" groups at 200 yds. Different equipment all round but also a commitment to his goal.

I don't care for cheaper than Burris or Warne rings and I still prefer steel to aluminum. I'd recommend squeezing a bit more from your budget now to avoid the temptation later of putting $6.00 rings on an upgraded scope. If it's mounted to the rifle, it shouldn't be an afterthought.

I've got cheap rings and loctite holding the scopes to most of my rifles without a single problem. I do have one set of $200 Nightforce rings but that is just cause they already had me bent over and I figured what the heck .
