scope suggestion for CZ 550?

I've been a C&R collector for about 6 years now, and looked around the safe and realized I didn't own a non-military surplus rifle. I've been invited on a couple whitetail hunting trips this coming season, I decided that trudging through the forest and rain with one of my military C&R's wouldn't really be an option. So, I since I really like shooting my Swedish mausers, and I really like the quality of my Czech-made mausers, I figured the CZ 550 in 6.5x55 would be a logical choice, not counting the excellent ballstics and efficiency of this round.

So, with my new CZ 550 American in 6.5x55 on order, I'm looking for a scope + rings. I understand that CZ sells rings ... are the CZ rings the only ones that fit this rifle?

Also, I'm completely uneducated when it comes to commercial scopes. I'm not sure where to even begin. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good scope for this rifle?

I believe that they come with a set of rings, just use those as they aren't necessarily pretty but they work fine and will save you a few bucks, and they are somewhat of an odd size or style as I recall.

As far as scopes, any scope from a quality brand will do you fine these days--Nikon, Leupold, Burris, Weaver, etc--all make decent quality scopes at a reasonable price point. The deal out there right now if you can still find them is on the "old" Nikon Monarch's--they have a new version out this year and the old ones are clearance priced a number of places for as cheap or cheaper than the next tier down Buckmaster models. So you're getting a scope comparable to a Leupold VX-ii for the price of a VX-i basically.

The CZ rings are good quality and will give you a solid setup. Warne and Talley also make high quality rings for the 550.

As far as a hunting scope, you have to look at what kind of conditions you will be hunting in. If you are hunting in thick cover with shots less than 100 yds, you don't need a monster 12x scope. I have a 1.75x6 Burris scope on my 550. Cranked down to 1.75x it has a great field of view for making quick shots in cover.

Recently mounted a nikon buckmaster 6-18x40 on a cz 6.5 swede. Makes a very nice setup.

The CZ rings are ok, but be careful with the screws. They're brittle! I had heard this, and snapped one myself. Rings only come with the 527s to my knowledge, I did'nt get 'em with my 550 or 452.

All options open, I'd get the Warne rings (and did so, even though my CZ rings are still on, they shipped me new screws).

Good choice, BTW, all my CZs (and Savages) are good shooters. I wish my neglected Remingtons had been. The set triggers are great.

BTW, if you get the FS version (which are sweet), you'll want high or medium rings.

you want to make sure you get either cz rings, or correct after market rings, as cz's need a high scope mount usually. Also if the 550 is like my 527's, they have a female area , on the rear bridge, for your ring mount to fit snuggly into. make sure any aftermarket rings can work with this, or have the correct male detent in the base , to fit the female portion, as well.

Oh yeah, right now, one of the best scopes going for the money, is the super sniper line. very tough, very dependable, repeatable, and bright, just won a Navy spec ops contract, and all for about 300 bucks!!!!
if you need cheaper, look for a Tasco Varmint Series, or a Nikon, or a Mueller APV. Very nice, and all should be 200 or less.
