It may be a small victory, but it is a win none the less. My neighbor is a middle school teacher in her early 30's and was, until Saturday, an anti. We usually agree on most topics, but while at her house a few weeks ago for a game (she is a big baseball fan and has parties to watch the game) some how the topic of guns came up and she had all of the typical anti comments and misinformation. We all discussed firearms and such for a while until we agreed to disagree. Then a few days ago the discussion came up again, and I was able to, with the help of Mrs. Dogbonz to convince her to come to the range.

So, Saturday, we (the Teacher, the Mrs., and myself) went to the range. I went over safety, the operation of the pistol (a Ruger MkIII .22), safety, range rules, safety, how to line up the sights, and safety. I gave her both ear plugs and muffs to minimize noise. I let her get used to the noise, and then, as discussed, I placed one round in the mag, and inserted the mag in the pistol and laid it, blot locked back, on the table.

She nervously picked it up, acquired the sights, squeezed the trigger and put a round almost dead center. She placed the gun down and turned around with a giant smile and began jumping and clapping saying; “That was soooo much fun. Did you see that? I hit the bull’s eye. OMG. I did it, I did it. Can I go again?”

She shot a bunch more from the 22, and then asked to shoot my Python, so I grabbed some min loaded 38spl target loads that I had and let her loose with the Python. She did very well with the revolver and she and the Mrs. shot up the rest of the light loads and had a great time.

She has recanted all of her anti beliefs and is now a convert. She said that she could not believe how much fun it was and was calling all of her friends on the car ride home to tell them about it. She called the Mrs last night to see when we can go again and asked to take her sister.

^^^ See post #13 for pics from after the range^^^

Well it's a good start congrats... Keep at it, it may take a while to sink in to her and she may develop a tendency to backslide to her old ways.

I suggest repeated range trips and a suggestion she eventually invest in her own piece..

It's amazing how quickly a little fun changes people's minds - I guess this reinforces the lesson that we gunnies have to take people to the range to get them on our side.

Well done :D

WHAT!? :what: You mean her eyes didn't turn red, she didn't grow bat wings and claws and fly into the air with the pistol mercilessly killing everyone within a 4-mile radius until the National Guard showed up, called the President and was forced to use a small-yield tactical nuke on her!?
Blasphemy!

Its treatment like this that converted me a few years ago. You take a few trips to the range, see that guns can be fun, that gun people aren't a bunch paranoid right-wing wackjobs, and you start to think differently about guns in general. I don't think our disagreements with most antis are because of differently ideologies, merely different perceptions.

Don't forget the other side, getting her involved in why we carry/own/etc. Well done, sir, I salute you.

Before I started shooting, I equated even the most mild home defense/self defense people with fat men in camo running around the woods declaring that the Japanese were really running the US government, and, to quote George Carlin "Talking to God on their two-way radios." Once my friends started taking me shooting, I became much more receptive to points of view that I had once dismissed as silly.

Thanks for the replies

Yeah, holding down the fort in NJ can be tough at times, but this makes it worth it (well sort of).

Picture of the Teacher (in the blue shirt) with my HK and The Mrs. with one of the Pythons. Pics were taken with all safety procedures followed. Fingers remained off of the triggers at all times. No ammo was in that room at any time.

Enjoy

Good work, this is what really needs to be done. If everyone would do this with one anti, say once a month or every few months, the world would be a much better place and we'd have a lot less nonsensical legislation to worry about on here.

Good work, DogBonz. I know how challenging it can be to convert an anti. I've only been able to help two see the light, thus far. Both were converted after they agreed to go to the range with me.

Man, you have a good-looking pro-2A wife? Hopefully I'll be as lucky someday.

It's really nice that you could do this for her. Thank God she didn't learn the hard way.

Great job! I also took a young lady shooting out for the first time last weekend. She was a friend of a friend but really wanted to go shooting. Great job on bringing one over to our side. Keep up the good work.

Folks, if we all pulled off an "anti-coup" annually the world would be a better place. Just once a year...

Disclaimer: I haven't, despite best efforts, been able to maintain an annual pace of conversion. I've got five, though.

Excellent job, especially in NJ.

Next trip to the range work on her grip and placement of her trigger finger...not good in the pics ;) Baby steps...baby steps...
