Don't forget the other side, getting her involved in why we carry/own/etc. Well done, sir, I salute you.

Well, on the one had she did figure out for herself one of the most common reasons any of us own guns. They're fun!

“That was soooo much fun. Did you see that? I hit the bull’s eye. OMG. I did it, I did it. Can I go again?”

I hope I never lose that feeling when I score a good hit on the target. I mean, isn't the sight of a clay in flight being turned into a thousand peices of plaster just a happy, happy moment? Don't you smile when you see a nice cloverleaf in the X-Ring?

If the fence sitters can be shown that guns are safe and fun, then they can very easily overcome the idea that all firearms are simply death incarnate. Once they see firearms as a tool, and one that is completly under the operator's control they can move past the idea that holding a gun will turn you into a red eyed, bat winged, demon murderer...

Once they understand it is a tool, you can then explain the other things that the tool can do.

Extremely well done!

So, Saturday, we (the Teacher, the Mrs., and myself) went to the range. I went over safety, the operation of the pistol (a Ruger MkIII .22), safety, range rules, safety, how to line up the sights, and safety. I gave her both ear plugs and muffs to minimize noise. I let her get used to the noise, and then, as discussed, I placed one round in the mag, and inserted the mag in the pistol and laid it, blot locked back, on the table.

That's about the best procedure for introducing a newbie that you can do. The plugs and muffs do make a difference and it's great that you thought of that. Well done all around!
