AURORA – A carjacking suspect fled the scene on foot after being shot in the head by his victim and crashing the stolen car he was driving.

Police say the victim was still in his white car when it was stolen and he managed to pull out a gun and shoot the suspect in the head.

Authorities say even though the suspect was shot in the head, he still managed to run from the scene. A police dog tracked him down.

The suspect was arrested and taken to the hospital for a gunshot wound to the head and a dog bite, according to Denver Police Detective Virginia Quinones.

Police are trying to determine if the suspect and the victim knew each other and how the victim had a gun.

The carjacking occurred at the 9800 block of East Girard in Denver around 9 p.m. Friday night. It ended with a crash near Havana and Kentucky in Aurora.

After the victim shot the suspect, the suspect crashed the stolen vehicle into another car with five people in it.

Police say rescuers had to cut five people out of the car. All five were taken to The Medical Center of Aurora, but police say their injuries are not considered serious.

Does it matter? Score one for the good guys. I don't care if he pulled it out of his you-know-what, the important thing is that he had one when the S hit the F.

colorado, cars and violence

I spent the first 19 years of my life in Denver and Aurora, CO. I moved away in 1993 and even then car jacking and in car murders from road rage or revenge or whatever was bad then, so I will only assume that it is only worse now. Having another motorist point a gun at me while going down the highway made decide to buy a gun to at least even the odds.

I went back to visit 5 1/2 years ago and I so not impressed with the way things have changed that I will never consider moving back.

Appears the suspect:
(a) suffered cognitive impairment from the gunshot, or
(b) was cognitively impaired to begin with

Any unsucessful carjacker who gets shot - in the head or elsewhere - and lives to run away ought to be able to figure out their luck is running downhill. Deciding to disagree with a police dog in hot pursuit has just got to be asking for more bad luck.

Seems this perp got his full share.

Hope the dog does not suffer any illnesses as a result.

stay safe.

Could your day of crime get any worse?. Shot in the head AND a dog bite. Nuf to make you want to collect the carts at Wallyworld. Joe

Of course the local media is all a-twitter about how the victim (the
jackee, in case some are not quite sure:fire: ) had a gun  and
shot the pretty-self-evidently criminal in his, the jackee's own car.:what:
Newly released records indicate that 20K+ ccw holders have been entered
into the database as persons of interest, some counties do not make this
entry as it is OPTIONAL.

Let me hear the congregation say AAARRRGH!

Its been said before: use enough gun.
