Got this beauty in a partial trade today. Commander in .45 ACP.
My first real Colt of any type.
I have a Colt M4 22 lr but it's a Umarex gun so that hardly counts.
I gave a Ruger SP101 that never saw the outside of my safe, and $300 for it. I felt like it was a good trade for both of us. I know he didn't really want to part with it but needed some cash so I rolled with it. 20211028_204105.jpg
It needs a good scrubbing and lube job but I know it has less than 1k rds through it. He purchased it new in 2018.

Excellent swap; you got a gun you wanted and gave away one you never used and some cash to someone who needed it. Win/win in my book.

I’ve never owned a Colt auto pistol, I’ve shot my Dads Huntsman .22, and my only Colts are an AR 15, a new Cobra .38 and an Officers Model .38 bullseye gun. Sooner or later I’ll join you and fill the Colt auto pistol void with a Colt 1911 :).

Let us know how it shoots for you when you get a chance to exercise it at the range .

Stay safe.

Beautiful piece! Glad you both made out on the trade. Hope it comes through for you on your range.

My dream house would have a backyard range like yours:thumbup:.

Nice. Good luck with it. :)

I always thought the Colts and USGI guns were the only true 1911's and the only 1911's I trusted to carry. Carried one on a daily basis for about 25 years too.

I had a number of the Colts in the "plastic" era. Never could figure out what Colt was thinking there, but whatever. They worked. The triggers and MSH's are easily replaced with steel. I always preferred the "short" triggers and the "arched" MSH's with a lanyard loop.

They finally wised up with that beavertail too. I still have an old MKIV "enhanced" that came with that faux beavertail Colt was using early on. Looked something like the one on bannockburns gun. The thing was horrible and pinched the crap out of the web of your hand when you shot the gun. I had to file it down to a more traditional profile, which solved the problem.

This is my old MKIV. If you look close at the tail on the safety, you can see where i changed it.

Never cared for commanders until I got one. Mine was professionally built. It's a Colt Slide on a stainless Caspian frame. It thinks itself a bullseye gun? Shoots really well with H$G 68's,and Lyman 185/90 (CRS mould #). Is ported, and have had zero issues with it.... in any fashion? With B.E. level loads,it is extremely flat shooting. Trigger is amazing.

In a lot of cases, guys end up liking them better to shoot than the 5". They take some tuning and a little more attention to matching up the spring rates to power factor, but for me that was all very fun. I made a "recoil" spring checker that turned out stupid nice, and easy to use. Could go on,and on about my commander. That's how they are, haha.

Good luck, and enjoy your new baby.

Just waiting for the sun to get fully up. I think there is someone bow hunting on the property next to ours, so I figured I should give him some time too before I go out the back door to the range. I'm going to shoot the new Commander next to my RIA A1 just to compare groups. Then she's going to get that fluff and buff.

Well, I got the Colt out this afternoon. I shot it next to my RIA, which I find to be quite a good shooter.
I fired both factory 230 FMJ and handloaded 230 LRN.
Both guns had no problems holding an honest 4.5 inch group at 10 yards, offhand, at a pace of about 1 shot every 1-1.5 seconds.
Those were 14 shot groups!
I don't know how that stacks up to other shooters, but I was pretty happy with it.
One thing I noticed was the POI shifted lower by about 1 inch with my handloads in both guns. I do think they were slightly hotter than the Armscor factory stuff I was shooting, which would explain the shift. The handloads did have a bit more recoil.
So far I'm loving this Colt. Now for that spa treatment. (For the gun, not me):D

One inexpensive upgrade that can tighten up groups is a new Kart barrel bushing. Otherwise those aren’t bad groups at all for stock pistols. Congratulations on your Colt!
