Here is a link to the states i can carry in.
http://www.buckeyefirearms.org/ohio-ccw-reciprocity-map

Im hoping this is the right section as i couldnt find anything else close that would encompass this discussion.

Ill try and keep it short but detailed, But my life has been turned upside down and now i need to start over. But i never got the chance like i do now to do it my way.

About one month ago my 66 year old dad who has mental issues, Medical issues and thought that alcohol would help him medically, Made a huge error of judgment.
I take care of him and my mother as a caregiver even tho i have my own issues mentally ive been able to live threw after a breakdown about 15 years ago. But the worse they have become the lower its dragged me down, But they are my parents and i wanted them taken care of in their own home.
Anyhow during a heated discussion/Just words my dad pulled out his cocked and locked 9mm and pointed it at me telling me "This is who your dealing with now". My mind was blown away even tho my 1911 was in arms reach next to me.
All i could think was "Call 911", Picking up my weapon never entered my head. Oddly that surprised me as i would have thought i would have defended myself first.
Yes its my dad, But its a loaded gun pointed at me.

Thats over and hes about to be released from jail but most likely turned over to the VA for mental and medical help.
But as it stands the courts want us separated and have a protection order against him. I wont keep a man from his home so ill leave when he is ready to come back.
Who will take care of my mom who is in a hospital bed is my biggest worry, But she wont leave my dad.

So im about to be homeless, But ive been preparing for it.
Ive sold many hobby items on ebay that would only go down in value and only take up space in my car and be hard to sell and turn into cash when needed.
I kept all my guns and knife collection and my many diamond earrings and small amount of gold. Those will be items of last resort when cash is gone.

Ill have $2000-$2500 in cash on the first of the month.
My car is in decent shape and should have no issues making the trip from Ohio to where ever which my be 800 miles or more.
I know all this info isnt needed, But i dont want to be stuck with something stupid i over looked. Im disabled and have a steady guaranteed income and pension, But im not living LARGE either. I have to save for everything i buy.

3-4 years ago I had taken several trips to "Deals Gap" AKA as the "Tail of the Dragon" and just loved the area and people of the south. Small town life only, NEVER medium to large towns and cities. I like the hills and no flat land and want a place with a low cost of living.

So that leaves TN,NC,SC and possibly AR even tho ive never been there. I just don't want excessive heat in the summers like FL and LA have. I don't know the topography of these states except for TN which i know is half flat and half hills. And id like to be inland and away from the Ocean and tourist areas like Gatlinburg.

Im thinking ill make the drive and get close to where i want to be and then borrow Internet hot-spots and search Craigslist for rooms to rent and people needing room mates. I can camp and sleep in my car to save money and not stay in hotels.

I know the Smokey Mts may be a hard place to find a good living arrangement due to its tourist locations. But i do love the area. Other than that i dont know much else to look at.
KY could be a place i look at, But they have some similar rough winters like we do in Ohio. And i have Family in southern WV so id rather avoid that area also. Its not that i dont like my family, Its that i want my peace and left alone.

So if you know of a smallish town or area i should look at please post any info you can help me with.

Also on cash, Should i keep my valuables like guns, knives and jewelry as they are or sell them and have the cash on hand? As i can always buy new stuff later.

Try Fulton, MO. I went to college there in the '70s. It's just about halfway between St. Louis and Kansas City.

The people there are MUCH nicer than the people in my hometown of Apartheid Chicago, where I had family problems, albeit of not quite extreme a nature. I could see myself living in Fulton again. I'll NEVER live in Illinois again, much less Chicago.

I have no idea what the current job situation is there. There are two colleges, Westminster (which I attended) and William Woods University (formerly all female William Woods College). There's Fulton State [Psychiatric] Hospital, a refractory, and the usual assortment of retail businesses.

Missouri has concealed carry now, and I believe they've greatly loosened up their purchase laws.

There's the Chapman Academy (at least I think it's still in Columbia), Midway and Graf's (which unlike Midway, has a storefront).

There are a LOT of worse places to live.

It you want to avoid heat in the summers west TN and Arky is out. It still gets hot in the other areas you mentioned.

Maybe look on the outskirts of Raliegh NC?

The biggest questions for you right at the moment might be ""What will I do for a living, and where can I be assured of a job?" Small towns may be out, due to limited employment. I don't like the urbanized areas, but they hold the jobs. You can always move out to freedom after you get economic situation stabilized. I am not familiar with all the areas you mention, but for less heat, and maybe more jobs, I'd look at NC or SC.

Houston is hot, flat and ugly but we have tons of jobs in the plants. Cheap to live here. Also lots of work in the oil fields of West Texas. Employment would be my top priority.

Wow, no one seems to read the posts and digest its meaning. He has an guaranteed income. Quite frankly if it was me I'd sell all the guns, but my carry gun and a hunting gun. Diamond earings I would presume would be difficult to move in a place you weren't well known(as in did you steal these) and may bring unwanted attention. May be the same with gold I am not sure. Hopefully the heat has dissipated, and we won't see the 100 year record highs again for awhile. Rural Tn and Kentucky are similar, I am not familiar with the Carolinas, Ark, or Mo to comment. I believe they all share the same weather for winter.

Come out to Kansas. Specifically the Overland Park area near Kansas City. Its lovely, has four distinct seasons, and is a fairly cheap place to live, with lots of nice apartments etc. The area is growing very nicely, there is a good amount of jobs available (especially if you are willing to work in Kansas City, Mo, and live in the less urban Overland Park area. There are nice hills and lots of trees (as opposed to the flat lands in west Kansas).

you had better go where there are employment opportunities. you dont necessarily need to move accross the country.

sounds like you need cash, so, your better start looking for work now. the rest will fall in line afterwards.

Although the summers are kinda hot and humid, you might take a look up in north central Arkansas, around the lakes and rivers there. Start in the Mountain Home area, west to Harrison, east to Calico Rock, etc. Very pleasant, and the hot weather lasts only three months. It is not a killer expenses area.

Good luck.

TN has no income tax (important for a fixed income). East TN is beautiful and not too hot (in the mtns). I plan to retire there myself.

Not to seem heartless, but other than the fact you had a gun pointed at you by your dad and you still own a few, this is not the least bit gun related.

Lots of small towns out there. Many are VERY clique-ish and don't welcome noobs. But if you found and area you already liked, do it.
