Searching further for a 9MM for IDPA

I've been seriously entertaining the idea of a fns longslide as well. I've seen them for some pretty good deals and passed them up. Now I'm kind of kicking myself for not pulling the trigger

The FNS 9MM Long slide holds and aims very well. I can see one of those as a possibility in the future.

Let us know how you like it!

A CZ-75B SA is a hefty piece of hardware, but as a range gun, that is fine. It fits well. It points well. I like it. The test target they included shows it shoots high and left. I tried it with Blazer 115 gr RN, 124gr RN, and Berry’s 115 gr RN and, whadayaknow, it shoots high and left -- about an inch high and 2 inches left at about 50 feet from a benchrest. I’ll see what my gunsmith can do. At 7 yards, I am comfortably inside the IDPA circle. The handloaded Berry bullets were more accurate than the store bought Blazers.

The SA trigger is shorter to reach than the DA/SA and it is an easy hold for my large hands. Some takeup before the break. Easy trigger for my amateur hands -- not light and not heavy. The reset is definite. The manual safety is a bit stiff yet and I would have made the safety lip extend a little further to the back to make it easier to reach.

The gun breaks down easily for cleaning. They recommend leaving the trigger for gunsmiths to clean. Not sure if I should spray Hornady One Shot through it when I clean the rest of the gun.

I’ll come back when I have 500 rounds through it. Now I have just 50.

As a reloader, they should let you know that CZs expect a short OAL or you will hit the lands. Not a problem, but you have to be careful with other than round nose bullets, which I gather are the only ones legal in that part of Europe. Now I have to try bullets and ladder powder to find the sweet spot.

I am happy with my choice. :)

I've been keeping an eye out to see if you did a follow-up.

You could always ream your chamber to fit the bullet of your choice.

I'm still debating on which sights to get after over 1k rds through the 75SA. I'm not gonna fiddle excessively with the trigger, as its "fine" but should yield good results with minimal work.

The stock sights are the biggest shortcoming. They're basic combat sights on an otherwise entirely target pistol.
I'm probably gonna end up with a fiber optic front, and serrated black rear.

No plans to change the lands until I do a number of work-ups. Laddered some Berry 115 gr and Blue Bullet 125 gr with Ramshot Silhouette today. Will try some TiteGroup tomorrow and have some 147 gr. arriving shortly.

Talked to CZCustom today about sights and they suggested an adjustable rear sight model 10618 that has a flat black back. I said at my age I need a little more help and he mentioned a company called LPA Sights. They fit in the standard dovetail so I think I would still be IDPA legal. I, too, will wait until broken in.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but aftermarket sights of just about all conventional types are fair game.
I.E. no red-dots or peep sights.
I have an adjustable LPA rear on a 1911, and despite how flimsy it looks has been very solid on a "beater" plinking gun

What does one need to mount an LPA rear sight on a CZ-75B. Is that something there is a simple tool for?

Should be able to drift the old rear sight out and drift the new sight in. You will need a drastically taller front sight as well in order to get the combination to zero.

I do like the gun. Cajun Gun Works has replacement sights (calls them over-40 sights) for old eyes like mine. They are booked into January but I’ll get in line. More than sights, they recommend trigger work. If I do that, and the sights, at the same time I’ll probably have them put in the 10x bushing to tighten the barrel in the slide.

In the mean time, my job is to make the gun part of my hand. Thanks to all for advice.

My gun is in Louisiana to be worked on. I asked David at Cajun whether I should get the 10X bushing. He said, “Maybe not.” Why not, I asked?

“Because then when you miss the target it will be your fault, not the gun’s.”

:)

gotboostvr, I love how it fits my hand and aims. I just am not happy where it aims. The test target they included shot high left and, son of a gun, so do I. I expect to do better after Cajun Gun Works finishes.

I was considering the adjustable rear sight but David, at CGW suggested the old man sights -- EZ/D 9-40 Fiber Optic Sight Set.
He said they really are easier to see than the adjustable.

I was concerned that the 115, 124, and 147 gr. bullets ladder higher and he said they set the sight for the middle and shooters compensate. I expect to be shooting 124s to meet power factor and my tests show them producing small groups.

Now comes the long wait. Shooting my S-A 1911 .45 Trophy Match in the mean time. Also a favorite. Grips and aims beautifully.

P.S. I asked CGW to tell me, when they disassemble it, if I should be cleaning it any differently than I am.
