What do you guys think about the Security Six ? An acquaintance has one in stainless steel which collects dust in his safe and I am tempted to snatch it... I think she's been neglected too long...

Whats a fair value for those ?

I do not know the current market value, but I bought one NIB (s/n: 151-75701) in the mid'70s and used it in my concealed rotation for 4-5 years. Nice handgun. Mine was reliable and accurate.

I usually carried it in a leather pancake holster under my sport/suit coat. I also got a shoulder rig for it, but never got used to it. My first & last shoulder rig. :)

I have one that length in blue and it is one of my favorite and most accurate revolvers. It strikes me as being just the right size and weight for the .357. Around here they are running about $450 in good shape.

I would say anywhere from $425 to $475 would be a fairly decent range to work with.

How do you like the trigger ? Almost as good as the Smiths ?

I like the trigger very much. Every bit as good as the Model 19 I have and much better than the Model 13 I used to have. I will say that I bought it used though - I have no idea if the trigger has been worked on or simply smoothed with use. I doubt either to be the case though because when I bought it my impression was that it appeared to have been fired very little.

I would not pass up a FTF opportunity for that particular revolver at any reasonable price.

I would agree, I even see some in my area going for more. Just a few years ago you could pick one up for $300 but prices have steadily continued to go up on all the Six series guns. The first pic is of the same gun with different grips, the 2nd shows my 4" version with finger grip grips. I picked up the 2-3/4" unfired new in box with papers a few years back. The 4" was well used. I'd say get it if you like revolvers especially if you can get it at a good price, you wont regret it.

Picked one up a few years ago for $375. Very good shape and a good shooter; though not quite as accurate as the 4" version I bought new 30 years ago. Might want to offer $375 and go from there.

I wish Ruger would re-introduce the Six-Series DA revolvers, maybe as Classics ala S&W. They were a fine design and much nicer than the GP100s that replaced them, IMHO.

Have three Sec Sixes, shorty blue, 4 inch stainless, and 6" first model blue. Won't willingly part with any of them. 450 and up is fine.

Speed Six?

Good as any.. and better than most.

I would not keep them if I didn't like them. And like them I do.

There is either a Speed Six or Security Six in all three photos. And maybe more than one.

Nice gun offer 350 and go up I just picked up a SP101 like new for 400 at a gun store . He had a GP 100 for the same price. Where you live will raise or lower the price but gun broker should give you a range to start with ..It is a great revolver I had one Blued 6 inch loved it .

they're a fine gun, and i certainly wouldn't pass up the chance to snag one for a fair price in a ftf deal.

good luck with the acquisition!

Maybe I need to move to a different part of the country. Here, a pristine 2.75" SS Security Six will bring close to $600 (probably from me).

I picked up a blued 6" Security Six LNIB for $250 plus tax in 1990. I still regret letting it go. A couple of years ago I bought a Service Six from a family member and I now am on my fifth Six series. The cheapest one came in at around $372 (including shipping and transfer) for a 6" SS in $85% condition. I got really lucky with that one. A 99% 6" SS w/boxes came home for over $625 and I feel it was still a fair deal.

Most recently, a 2.75" SS Security Six (98%) followed me home for a little over $500 including tax. I still can't believe that shop sold it for so little (it was on the shelf for half a day). The 2.75" stainless is the most popular and the actual selling prices on auction sites reflect it. When you add shipping and FFL transfer, the auction prices are real eye-openers.

Offer your friend a fair price (by today's standards), and you may end up with the most durable alternative to a K frame that was ever made. In today's dollars, you can't buy this unique blend of quality, fast handling, and ruggedness in anything new for anywhere close to $600.

The prices will only increase because people like me now know how good these revolvers really are. While I like the 2.75" and the 4", the 6" is the best handling (CCW problems though). I plan on picking up more of all lengths in the future:cool:

I had a chance to handle a 6-inch Security Six today, first time I've been able to lay hands on one. I was a little surprised and disappointed that it didn't do anything for me. Maybe it was those slippery little wooden stocks, or maybe I'm just so used to the bulk of my GP100 that I don't know any better, but I had no desire to bring it home. I couldn't imagine shooting .357s through it...it just didn't feel like a .357 Magnum to me.

Are they really getting that expensive? wow... I bought a Blue Police Service-Six a few years back for $275. I liked the gun well enough but a friend liked it much better so I sold it to him. Maybe I should have held on to it for a while longer with prices going this high!

I traded a Mossberg 12ga plus $125 cash for a 98% blued 2.75" security six. Early 150xxx serial with the low back frame and factory grips. I didn't use the shotgun but I think time will prove that I now own the rarer and more valuable gun. If nothing else I enjoy having more revolvers in my collection. Mine isn't well used but the trigger is fairly heavy and the grips are not designed for my hands.
