I recently ordered some holsters from DeSantis and was disappointed with the quality one was an all leather holster it looks great on the outside but the inner leather is very rough like sandpaper

The others were there wild hog holsters which are basically a glorified canvas tape holster with leather supporting it on the outside but fairly rough canvas on the inside

i’m willing to spend a reasonable amount of money for a better quality holster preferably all leather or a lined leather holster for revolver such as Smith and Wesson 27 Dash two and Colt pythons and anacondas

I prefer in outer waistband holster perhaps a pancake style but some thing that is potentially concealable but not necessarily and that sits in a way that is comfortable when sitting down

I like Milt Sparks….https://www.miltsparks.com/

Fair warning, all holster will wear finish…https://www.miltsparks.com/questions.php

“The act of drawing your pistol from whatever container you choose to carry your weapon in creates friction at the points of contact. Eventually those points will begin to show signs of wear. For that reason, it would be unreasonable to expect that your personal sidearm will remain in pristine condition forever. It does not matter whether your holster is lined or un-lined, as a lined holster simply delays the inevitable. If you carry and use your gun, the finish on your gun will wear. We prefer to call it “character”. A pristine gun in a pristine holster is not a tool that is being used.”

Bianchi makes a lined holster that looks good. I carry a 4" 686 in a Bianchi Cyclone that can be worn strong side or cross draw either one. Mine isn't lined but isn't real rough either. I carry cross draw because of the comfort setting down in the pickup. I'm happy with it carrying my engraved 686.

The Milt Sparks FAQ listed above is one I often include. It is a good point of reference for those new to carrying, or who may have unrealistic expectations of what a holster can or will do.

What to you is "reasonable amount of money"? Usually, when this is posted on forums, it seems as if it usually means $50. Typically, quality leather holster prices begin at $100 and go up from there.

If you want a holster that's a pleasure to handle, you need to start at Milt Sparks, and investigate upwards from there. Not a one of the recent production big-name holsters I've owned were well made, though many were adequate and some rose as far as functional.

Lobo Gun Leather can add smooth leather lining to whatever model you like, and they cover many revolver models. https://lobogunleather.com

My go to holster maker.
Not only supporting my home town business, but they are good a Christian Republican business!
You will not be disappointed!

Just ordered another holster a few weeks ago, it will be done in 5 to 6 months.....worth the wait (and the price!)!

IMHO, linings are a waste of time and money. Fitment will have far greater effect on how holster wear than a soft lining. The "rough" flesh side is not as hard on finishes as one might think either. However, finish wear is a fact of life with any handgun that sees much holster use.

That said, El Paso Saddlery will make you a fine pancake. I like their #88.

Why is it that the liner isn’t worth it?

I have gotten some pretty decent leather holster‘s were the inside leather was very rough and stiff like sandpaper

also in a case like this What can I do to treat the rough scratchy leather on the interior of the Holster to reduce the potential damage to the finish

I've bought a lot of holsters from Simply Rugged. They've all been excellent. I would not say any have been rough on the inside, but I've had that experience from other makes on occasion.

You can line it yourself, you can maybe burnish the inside, or you can sand it gently.

Another vote for El Paso Saddlery...quality for almost a century...not cheap but a lifetime of enjoyment packing one of their rigs. Best regards, Rod
