Hi all, I'm looking at buying a seekins hit in 308 for target, hunting, and entry level long range training. I plan on topping it with a nightforce atacr 5-25x56 f1, or a vortex razor gen 3. Any experience with this rig? I don't want this thread to go to far down the rabbit hole so please stay on topic, however opinions and experiences are welcome.

A friend of mine has a Seekins Havok, it's a 1st class rifle, easily sub MOA with Norma factory 300WM ammo (he's burning to get brass). Fit and finish are excellent, the trigger is great and it's a lot of rifle for the asking price.

Personally IF it was me, I'd skip the .308Win and go with either a 6.5C or the 6.5PRC (my choice). Both will do better (wind & drop) at the long range game, save you some recoil and are perfectly adequate for hunting.

I just bought a .308Win, just cause I've got a a lot of loaded .308 left over. It's a great caliber, but for me sort of meh.. For deer I generally use something either smaller due to range, or something faster due to potential range, or something bigger due to much closer range.

It's a great "all around" cartridge, but I'm not an "all around rifle, sort of guy.

I had a Havak, wouldn't have another for the action or the barrel, but at 2100 it's probably a good choice. Mine may have been an anomaly.

Those are two excellent scopes, not worries there. My Havak, chatter marked barrel and all, shot under 1 MOA fairly easily, just not the level I was looking for. I spent a lot more after that, and a lot more than 2K to get there though, so......... The Hit looks like good bang for the buck, but I would search other entry level PRS rifles before you make up your mind.

Friend of mine has a HIT in 6.5prc and just sold a Havak.

We havent shot the HIT yet, but the Havak was a really nice rifle. I don't know what its actual accuracy potential was, but after i figgured out where to hold staying on plate out to the 900ish we had that day was simply not screwing up wind calls.
Id have bought that rifle from him if it was anything besides 300prc.

I'm a bit overwhelmed about caliber choice for a precision shooting/ hunting rifle. It seems everyone has an opinion. 6.5 creed seems weak for large game, 308 seems lacking for distance and 300 prc looks expensive but all 'round great, and there seems to be a shortage of large rifle and magnum primers for reloading. I'm definitely looking for a do it all rifle. I'm looking at going custom but I'm not an experienced long range shooter and it's quite expensive for a custom rifle. I shoot pistols almost exclusively, I need a rifle I can grow into. I think ill buy the scope first. And do some more research on the right rifle and caliber. And more experience and knowledge is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The truth is that any of those chamberings will reliably kill well out to any range you'd likely become skilled at shooting. Reading around the internet, Seekins has a stellar reputation. I don't think you can go wrong there. I'd take a NF over a Razor.
