What is the group opinion of the weapon, Inexpensive "car, truck" gun with 17 rounds of 0MM, and a decent rep for working when needed. MY bud just put one in the Grand Cherokee, and swears by them.
Forgot his other one in NY before coming down to L to his winter home down here.
What is the consensus, I told him to get a Glock 19 "used" which we found at the show last week for about the same price. But he had already bought one.
Guy has a lot of handguns, Too many "he mixes them up", Forgets he already has "one of those". He is a long gun sniper, "marine" really has no interest in shooting the pistols nor does he practice.
I try to get his butt to the range but he would rather buy them than shoot them.
Meanwhile what about those Taurus's. Pt111, 2n gen

When they work, they're great. When they don't, have fun with Taurus mediocre at best customer service. I'd rather spend the same money on a new S&W SD 9 or 40 that's a better pistol, has better warranty support & CS, and is made in the USA.

I had one several years ago. The gun itself was fine; overall fit and finish were very good, with a lot of rounds in a rather compact size. My problem with it was it just didn't feel right in my hand, like the axis of the grip frame was too straight up and down. As a result it seemed like the sights pointed low when bringing them on to target. I sold it and eventually replaced it with a Ruger SR9c which has far better design ergonomics for me.

I have way too many guns from a wide range of makers over the years - only 1 lemon in the bunch - I'll let you guess which one / maker that is! :banghead:

I knew I was taking a chance when I bought it, but there was just so much to like about it AFA features, feel, etc. These days, there are many choices that were not available when I purchased said lemon.

I have a relative that's the gunsmith at a local shop - he tells me:
1. He has to work on numerous new guns (from the factory) before the shop can put them out for sale.
2. The shop gets more returns and trade-ins of Taurus firearms than any other (and they sell Hi-Points)!
3. The shop owner has gotten so frustrated with lack of QC, that I think he's carrying fewer of their guns all the time - he may be moving towards dumping the entire line.

It is true that if it shoots well, then you are lucky. I have had the Taurus 24/7 9mm, 24/7 9mm OSS. Taurus 92 in .40, PT145 in .45, and the PT1911. The 1911 was the only one that I kept and ran flawlessly. The others all FTF issues, didn't shoot at point of aim, etc.

I had an ultra light alloy revolver weighed 12 ozs, only made it 2 yrs,. It felt like a toy, I should have kept it, was a nice little gun. But got bored and traded it for a 740, Taurus, which was the "slim" model. Sold that "brand new for $400.00 and bought an AK with the money, LOL. Kicked in $100 bucks, those were the days. I got rid of all of my revolvers, tha was the last.
Now guess what I am craving, Yep a 357. Taurus makes a lightweight model with a 2" barrel, for $350, this week there is a show in Vero, either a RI tactical compact or 357 snub is coming back home as my Car/truck gun. Unless I can get an ATI cheap. I don't want a full size or I would get the Taurus in 1911.
My friends Millennium just didn't do it for me. I might get a 1911 in 9mm if I see a RI I like. Taurus make a hell of a lot of similar guns, just look through their online catalog. It's very redundant.

Honestly, life is too short to deal with Taurus pistols.

My brother-in-law has a PT92 that can sometimes make it through 2 magazines without malfunctioning. And that's supposed to be their best semi-auto?

A friend has a Raging Bull that fails to function properly occasionally (chambers are cut so poorly that some spent rounds require a rod to knock out). If a company can't produce a revolver that functions properly, I have no faith in their ability to produce quality semi-autos at all.

I have 2 semiautos and a good friend has a revolver. No problems with any of them. I love my PT-145 Millenium PRO. It fits my hand well and is my everyday carry. It runs great with any ammo I have tried. Only failure to fire was a primer problem- not gun related. My PT-99AF was one of the 1st guns I ever bought back in the '80's. I still love it. Most accurate 9mm I own. My friend has the Total Titanium .357 revolver (in electric blue  ) He has never had a problem with it, either (except the porting makes it extremely LOUD). But he loves it, too. Perhaps we got 3 gems (is that the opposite of lemons?) Oh- just remembered- another friend has a 738 and I am aware of no problems with it, either.

I have had 6 Taurus guns. The only one I had trouble with was the 380 TCP. Sent it back to Taurus twice because of FTF, but came back both times just as bad as before.
I got rid of it.

Too many bad experiences with Taurus. I won't trust one…… ever.

For the money there are a host of other guns I'd choose. JMO

I bought a used PT92 last year and never had an issue with it . . . until a piece of the feed ramp sheared off. Now, I'd bought it with a one-year service plan (throwing the salesman a bone for being helpful) and the store had it off to Taurus and back in just a couple of weeks with a new barrel. On one hand, yes the gun failed, but on the other hand, it never gave me any trouble despite having been through at least two prior owners (as I learned later) and the warranty process worked as it should.

I looked at a Millenium prior to buying the PT92 and agree with Bannockburn about not caring for the feel of it. Otherwise, buying a brand new one with a warranty, I would not have had any major concerns. However, it wouldn't have been my carry and/or nightstand gun either.

I go started with a Taurus PT-111, Millennium Pro,a small 9mm handgun. I had to wrap the grip to get some bulk for my long fingers. I had the usual issues with a new gun, it went back to the factory in Miami and returned in twelve days. It has worked flawlessly now for the last 1500 rounds and is my neat daily carry. I have a 24/7 Compact that's also been good for over 1500 rounds.
I've since had other 9mm guns that seem big, heavy and clumsy in comparison.

I had a pt111 it went bang every time. trigger was the worst of any handgun I owned.
Not sure why everyone has so much trouble with Taurus handguns. I must have good luck having had 4 and none of them had given me trouble other then a 38 that went out of time after 1000's of heavy loads that cost all of 12 bucks to fix from my local gunsmith.

I have not shot the 9mm version. But I have shot my buddies PT140 Millennium Pro. I'm a youngerish enthusiast. But I much prefer all metal pistols over Tupper ware.

I was really impressed with the little pistol. In managed the .40 S&W recoil well. Was comfortable to shoot. And accurate to my standards out to 15 yards. I went in thinking it would be an inaccurate pile. I would not hesitate to carry one in any caliber.

My brother had a PT92 back in the late 90's that had issues. But the only other Taurus I have shot was a PT1911 rental at the range. Shot as nice as any other 1911 I've put my hands on.
