Yup, actual hands on training geared towards dealing with real-world violent situations is worth more than a loaded .45 on your hip.Take a class from SouthNarc
-That's some funny stuff right there, don't forget the occasional incoherent mumbling.Other than that, grow your hair and beard for 6 months and go out without combing it. I haven't had to say 'excuse me' once in the last 2 months just because of my apperance when I play it up. You also won't have a problem finding anything in a store, because a manager will be a few steps behind you most of the time.
While I never frequent [the bars students go to], especially after dark, I am occasionally alone on campus at odd hours ([examples]).
I think we can both agree that it is unreasonable to expect Public Safety to be everywhere at all times, and that to some extent it is each individual's responsibility have adequate means of self defense. In addition to a good pair of running shoes, one should be prepared to utilize some means of self-defense if need be.
The Community Standards state that " Unauthorized possession, use, or storage of any 'weapon'" is prohibited. Is there a procedure for receiving authorization to possess certain self-defense devices on campus, e.g., OC pepper spray, a small "penknife", or items that are otherwise legal to possess in Maryland/Baltimore City?
To put my question directly: what self-defense items would one be able to possess that--when done so responsibly--will not get him in trouble with Campus Safety or Student Life?
I would tremendously appreciate your input on this matter.
More likely he thought "anything I tell this kid might come back to bite me. If I say 'buy pepper spray,' or 'here's how to get a Tazer,' or 'take boxing lessons,' then if he ever defends himself I might take some criticism for telling him what to do. If I tell him nothing is allowed, then that will be a huge lawsuit once some mugger kills/maims him and the e-mail gets out. The best course of action is to pretend I never saw it."Sent last week and he never replied. Did he think I was kidding or something?
