Self-Defense "One-Liners"

I was watching a training video the other day. Near as I recall the guy said something along the lines of "There is nothing defensive about self-defense". I tend to agree with that.

"locked doors only keep honest people out"
"guns dont kill, well placed shots do"
"be prepaired and alert,a criminal isnt going to give you a warning"
AND MY PERSONAL FAVORITE
".22 to .44mag,any gun is better than no gun at all!"

The .380 that's always in your pocket is more effective than the .45 you always leave at home.

In God we trust... everybody else keep your hands where I can see them.

A year after the gun fight nobody will remember the stance or caliber you used, only if you lived or died.

Be polite and professional, but have a plan to kill everyone you meet.

"Give me five feet!"

Why, you ask? Because most hoodlums have been in jail and/or prison and that's what the guards yell when they want the guy to step back from the door.

You might be surprised how powerful psychological conditioning can be.

It's a little longer than a one liner, but this is good when teaching a CCW class: "Every raise your middle finger, and point it at everyone else in the class. Get it out of your system because this is the last time you'll ever flick someone off as you'll be carrying."

Gunfights are like car accidents. They are sudden, violent, bloody, unexpected, and you will never see one coming. Now think of your gun as a seatbelt. Thinking you can put it on right before you need it will probably get you killed.
I like that. Is that yours? If not, who is that one attributed to?

"The day you leave your gun at home is the day you will wish you had it."

"If you draw and you're not prepared to kill, you'd better be prepared to die."

"I don't care how big or how bad you are, 9mm holes in your body will still make you stop what you were doing." (Army Doc in my CCW class cracked a joke because the instructor was talking about the 9mm she carried.)

"Slow is smooth, smooth is fast."

"You don't have to win in a gunfight, you just have to not lose."

"Complacency kills."

Think I read the meat of it in an article 2-3 years ago...can't quite remember where though. I've put my own spin on it over time.

"Combat is like marriage
It seems attractive to men who have never done it. "

LMFAO!

Matthew, with your permission I'd love to add that to my tagline....

Never bring a knife to a gun fight.
I have to ask: Was this really something you heard at a self-defense class?..I know it is a very popular witticism

The way I learned it, it was "Bring a gun to a knife fight." or something along those lines. In other words, you should always seek the advantage. Fight dirty. All's fair in love & war, etc.

AH!
That is original!! I will use that next time I get bummed for money!!

I used to be a cabbie in Buenos Aires, Argentina. When I saw someone suspicious I would ask "You ain't a cop, ain't ya?!?" and more than once they will show me their prison tatoos and scars.
I was never mugged.

As per the knife its called The 21 ft rule in alot of circles I know of. The rule is an assailant at 21 ft away with an open knife to a man with a pocketed or holstered gun over 95 percent of the time your getting cut bad enough to require medical care. Every 10 ft after that its a 1/3. So at 31 ft its a little over 30 percent. (brother is trained in some knife martial arts) Knife to gun at 10 ft be cock and ready or be ready to bleed.

Very correct above.
Depending on distance & training.
Never bring a knice to a gun fight.

NEVER bring a gun to a knife fight at 3ft.

9 years inside the wire, never heard/used that one. Must be a local thing. :)
"You can get another job, you can get another gun, but you get issued one life per lifetime. Defend it."
