It happens often. I've seen two close misses from Mexican carry and several other hits to the jewels and tackle that weren't self-inflicted.
The worst one was a round that went through a car window and then perforated the left thigh, BOTH testicles and penetrated the right thigh too. The damage was such that each testicle was in half. The urologist managed to repair them both (I was amazed, I had thought the guy would lose his jewels).
