I have a 4" GP100 in stainless. Bought it LNIB a few months ago. I also have a mint S&W 686. I am thinking of buying an AR-15 (I have a Colt already), and am considering selling the GP to offset the price of the AR. Now, the GP does not get carried. It sits in the safe. It gets shot maybe once a year, and .38 ammo (not even counting .357) isn't any cheaper then .223. The 686 is never going anywhere. Too sweet a gun. The GP is nice, but the 686 is nicer.

I can't buy the AR without selling the GP, and a Mossberg 930 shotgun (I have a Rem 870, and my range only allows slugs, and slugs aren't fun to shoot more than a few boxes at a time).

So I'm thinking of selling 2 guns that i rarely shoot for 1 that I will shoot more, and I have tons of AR mags for the Colt.

Am I crazy? I have 5 other handguns, so do I really need the GP? I see-saw back and forth about it, not because I love the Gp that much, but just because I will be letting 2 go for 1.

I think you answered your own question. Yes, I like the GP, but if it will never see any use in your collection then I can identify with you. Every gun owner will eventually have to make such decisions. I have.

Don't sell any gun or you'll usually regret it. I say that after decades of experience. The GP-100 may not be quite as sweet as the 686, but chances are you'll miss it once it's gone.

Sell your GP100 ?

I vote with the posters that say sell.
My way of doing it or or code if you will.

1 Never sell a gun that is hard to replace

2 Never sell a gun that belonged to your father or any other significant relative or friend

3 Never sell a gun unless you are doing it to buy a more valuable gun at least at the time and to you

4 This has worked well for me , but YMMV

5 P.S I have one of the most understanding wives on the planet , yes I have been blessed !!!

I sold my gp, money was tight and I put 50 rounds through it once every 4-5 months so I let it go, I miss that gun more then every other I have ever sold, just my expierience though.

Sounds like you really want the AR. I recently made a similar trade, the enjoyment from getting something you "really" want, offsets the sadness of losing something you like, and wished you liked more, but just don't for some reason..........If you can get a good price for it, I say sell.........just don't take a loss on it for the short term satisfaction of getting the AR...................then again, you could put the AR on layaway and keep all of your guns.

I trade guns all the time. If I let one go and I miss it - I just get another. The only exception is a gun that would be very hard to replace - like a mint pre-lock S&W for example...

SELL the SMIFF I`m partial & biased LOL!!!!

just funnin , i`m not going to tell ya what i`d do because i have this problem each time i walk into a gunshop , my mind goes to spinnin, if i sell this , if i trade that .
if i do something drastic i usually regret it .

it`s my war & i`m losing !!!

If you sell the GP, you have to change your name :).

But no, I would not sell a GP100 to buy an AR.

Then again, I'm not an AR fan, though the new Ruger SR556 does intrigue me.

I have given up one gun in my life, and that was a trade for a better gun. I didn't even like the first gun that much, but now that it is gone, I am considering another one to replace it. I have learned that the only way I will give up my collection is when my kids inherit it...

By the way, I have a GP100 and love it. I don't shoot it much, but I shoot my other .357 a lot less because it was my Dad's. You gotta have one big mother of a revolver that you can shoot! My vote is to keep it and save up for something else...

Cheers! M2
