Sell or keep the Colt Python???

I said my goodbies and sold mine. I will not be buying another. I tend to shoot my guns a lot, and the Ruger Security Six that I kept will require less maintenance than the Python started to require.

I would never sell a Python for piece of molded plastic and pot metal. Never, unless, I was to the point where I was hiding my own Easter eggs.

G makes some good points, as usual
but they don't much apply to me

Pretty guns belong in pictures and museums, or in my hand at range, putting some honest wear on 'em. I haven't succeeded in wearing any of 'em out yet, and they all still look good.
My grandkids are already drooling over my 'classic' stuff, and they know it's all been shot a lot. A lot by me, some by them. The drool factor being about more than just good looks, no matter how pretty they be. I call that "added value" for all of us, some value now, some value someday, good investment for all.

yep
If I owned a Python, I would try to wear it out, and if I did, I would call it time and money well spent. If it can't be fixed when the time comes, the grandkids can hang it on the wall and just look at it, with fond memories to go with.

If I wasn't willing to do that, I would put a picture of it on the wall, sell it to CPE, and buy something else to wear out. But CPE & G would have to do some better than a lowball offer. :)

I just got a trooper mk III 2 days ago and it is a beauty. I would love a python and had my sights on one a few years ago and the owner sold it out from underneath me knowing I was going to buy it. We had already discussed the price and agreed. ARs are all over the place, they don't make pythons anymore.

I understand that such is not you.

Heck, you would shoot the heck out of a Remington Model 53 if you had it...then giggle over your post-range Maker's Mark about the ability to fire such a rare handgun.

But you were recommending that the OP sell the 67 tri-power vette for a new mustang. (as Hipower analogized).

I have a NIB 6” Colt Python with Ellison sights and Altamont cocobolo grips. It has been in the safe for 31 years only to be taken out for an occasional photo session. I also have a S&W Model 19-3; they are the last two of my remaining revolvers.

As parity to the Marine chant in the movie FMJ:
The Colt is my revolver, the Smith is my gun,
The Python is for appreciation, the 19 is for fun.:)

If I'm every lucky enough to get a nice one at the right price, it will stay with me forever. Although I have recently adopted a new policy of never selling, trading, or giving away a firearm. I will just continue to amass them. I think back to all the guns I've sold or traded over the last several years and I want almost all of them back.
My dad bought me a 4" Python when I graduated FLETC and since it was just a little over two weeks ago it was a Christmas present, too. It shoots beautifully. It was made the same year I was to boot. It's in maybe 95% condition with barely a turn line. I'll never get rid of it.
