SELLIER & BELLOT Primers anyone using them?

Been reloading with S&B LP because of price, never a issue, doubt I will go back to CCI unless a I start having problems.
BTW-- I use RCBS APS strips and the S&B were a little loose, I put the much used strips in boiling water for about 30 sec. and good to go.

I'm just finishing up loading the last of the 25,000 S&B Small Pistol primers I bought last year, and out of the 20,000 I've shot so far, I've yet to have one fail to go off. They're a good primer at a good price.

From what I've observed, people who have a lot of primer problems aren't seating them correctly. If the anvil isn't set into the primer pellet properly it can't do it's job. This is especially true when someone says the primer went off on a second strike..........

Hope this helps.

Fred

I've used thousands of them. No issues from me. Well, ok...at 1 time, I had a tuned glock with light springs. It did not like them. All my factory guns eat these with no issues. So much so that I just ordered 15,000 more.

Good day Gents
The duds may have been my fault, and I will not argue the fact. they were definitely not stored in moisture, but may have been seated high. I must however add that a buddy of mine has completely stopped using them because of a delay between when the firing pin hits the primer to when it goes off. He had about 10 do that at the range and decided to stop for fear of injury. Must also add, that another buddy ( the one who recommended them) swear by them and have never had a failure. guess its just my luck.

I've used several hundred (of my first 5k) S&B small pistol primers in Glocks and S&W K-frames (.38spl) and they're my new favorite. They seat more easily than CCI, have been just as reliable so far, and are cheaper.

By the way welcome to THR Nambihunter.

Great people here.

I have just shot about another k SP with no problems whatsoever.

Not going off is one thing, could be bad primers, light strikes, excessive head space, not seated well... but the not going off right away is a different issue.
Any idea how old the ones giveing you issues are? Storage conditions? Could the ammo possibly have gotten wet?

Took the plunge... For $19.99 at Cabelas with $5 shipping and $20 Hazmat fee was more than I could resist.

Burned up another 1000 no problems Shot 100 of them in my Colt Python all went bang the first time.

Well they arrived and I loaded up 100 9mm rounds today using my Lee Turret with the autoprime system and all went well. Seating depth was good and I would say that they were easier to seat then the CCIs I have been using.

Hopefully will get to the range tomorrow to test them out.

They seem to work fine for me. Just take a bit of getting used to looking at them (SP) because they are "flat" and don't have the rounded edges of CCI/WIN/REM/Tula.

Hope they work well for everybody.

I have big :D for $20/K.

OOPPPPSSS meant CCI 500 CCI SP not SR.
Getting senile and can't type, or see what I typed without my glasses.

Ran 300 rounds with S&B small primers today. 200 9mm and 100 45 ACP in Federal brass. They all fired 100%. At $20 on sale right now from Cabelas these are the best deal in primers right now.

$20 hazmat and if you catch it you can get $5 shipping. Don't miss out.

+1 to what VAgunner said: our Cabela's has them for $19.99!! Buy 'em by the fistfull!!

I've not had any issues with them, and at that price, I'll keep loading them.

I wish there was a Cabelas locally so I could avoid the shipping Amanda hazmat fee but it is still the best deal going.

Took delivery of some yesterday from Cabelas. Hard to pass on less than $20 per thousand and only $25 shipping including the haz-mat fee. Everywhere else wants $28.50 just for hazmat and tacks on an additional $15-$25 handling and shipping fee! Finished up a brick of 5,000 this spring and all shot fine for me and decided I wanted more.

My S&B's from Cabelas just arrived. I've never seen primers shipped like this. Most brands come 100 per tray, 10 of those per box, 5 boxes (5k) per case. To keep things simple for shipping, I generally order multiples of 5k[1].

So, on my order of 5k S&B SP and 10k S&B LP, they seem to have literally tossed 7 boxes and some packing paper in one box, 8 boxes and some packing paper in another box, then put those two boxes in a bigger box. The inner boxes look like they might have originally held multiple 1lb powder bottles. Things had been jostled enough that several of the boxes of 5k had come open, but thankfully all the trays of primers had stayed put. What I expected, based on how primers have always arrived in the past, was 1 factory sealed box of 5x1000 SP and 2 factory sealed boxes of 5x1000 LP, along with some packing of some sort in a larger box.

The taping job on the outer box was so shoddy that the entire length of the top was no longer sealed, and at each end opposite halves of the top were no longer held down. I was actually worried that someone might have "gone fishing" sticking their arm in through to top to see if they could find anything worth slipping out...but other than a tin of air gun pellets, there was nothing but the big boxes of primers, some packing paper, and the packing list.

Definitely, the worst packing job I've encountered for primers.

[1] The only exception to this that I've seen is Fiocchi primers, which come in trays of 150, boxes of 1500, and cases of 12000.

Also odd...I just realized I got email from UPS that my package from Cabelas had been delivered. That email was received more than 2 hours before the package was left at our door (7pm vs after 9pm). They rang the door bell, but were gone before anyone got to the door. Such a late UPS delivery is odd enough, that even after seeing the box, my wife was unwilling to open the door until I was available. I'm kind of curious if the driver was way behind schedule and falsifying delivery times (saying packages were delivered before they were) or if he left my package at the wrong house and they were nice enough to re-deliver it.

While I haven't shot thousands, I've shot a few hundred, which all went bang. I find they seat a little snug, but they're good to go from my limited experience.

I was skeptical before I bought, now I wish I had bought more than the7K from Cabelas.

I really like S&B primers. The Cabela's nearest me (about half hour away) has had them for $19.99 for a few months, and they're always on the shelf!! Every time I'm there I grab a few boxes of each SPP and LPP.

No issues for me, have loaded thousands. They're becoming my favorite primer!!
