would you buy/sell/trade a gun from someone who is 18 with a legal license or id in Oregon? it is legal to transfer/sell/buy gun from an 18 year old if the transaction is private, both handguns and rifles. so the golden question is would you?

Certainly. Why not?

Well, actually, I should clarify that. No, I would not. But only because I am a Washington resident and the transactions would have to go through an FFL. But, if I were also an Oregon resident, my original answer would stand. Certainly... why not?

Yes, I certainly would, with the same caveats as NavyLT. I don't believe in doing more than the law requires in firearms transactions. I believe one should follow the law, but not enforce my own prejudices on top of it.

Actually, Art, legally, the ability of the seller to lawfully possess the firearm is not much concern to the buyer. There are no laws that I know of that require the buyer to be concerned about the lawful possession of the firearm by the seller, EXCEPT that it is illegal to buy a gun known to be stolen.

As an example, let's say that my next door neighbor Joe has a gun collection. And let's say that Joe does not like to be completely honest on his taxes and is convicted of tax evasion at the felony level. Now that Joe is a convicted felon, completely unrelated to firearms, he says, "Hey, John, I know you like my AR-15 and I can't keep it anymore so I will sell it to you pretty cheap." Are there any statutes that would indicate it would be a criminal act for me to buy it from him?

It is even legal for those who find themselves in such situations to sell their guns to FFLs.

Yes I would as long as he seems to be a stand up guy. Do you happen to know this person or how did you come across this transaction. You said handguns as well. I do not know about Oregon but around my neck of the woods you cannot legally posses a handgun until you are 21.

around here you can buy a handgun through private purchases if you are under 21 and over 18 but you cannot buy a handgun from a legally owned gun shop
