I was talking to a woman friend in Anchorage today, she mentioned that a slippery looking character had made his way into her apartment building (he didn't live there) and was reputed to be a drug user type seeking a warm place to use. I asked her if she had her pepper handy, and she said someone told her that it was illegal to carry pepper spray in the city of Anchorage, that she was told you needed a CCW to carry pepper. Is this true?

What's the status of CCW in the city? The state went no-permit, but I've heard conflicting info regarding in the city, or if they can enforce "permits needed" in the city if it's not required in the stste.

Thanks guys, she didn't know where to get personal sized pepper spray, only bear canister size. Wild, do you have any pocket or purse size pepper at your place? If so, what's the address?

I don't think she can afford anything stronger at the moment.

malamute, can you get the general area where she lives in anchorage? crackheads typically stick to neighborhoods they are familiar with. might be nice to give a heads up to some of our family/friends.

I don't know the area. I think it's generally a decent area, just an occasional loose fruitball around. She really doesn't like living in the city, just a financial neccesity at the moment.

most anchorage neighborhoods are rather decent. take the area where WA, carebear and i live (within 3 blocks of each other). Spenard has its fun spots with hookers on every corner and dealers lurking in the shadows, to lakefront property where the homeowners have lived there 30+ years and never have any problems.

fairview used to be really bad, but the city cleaned up the neighborhoods, put in a bunch of parks and re-routed the traffic so what was once 'ghetto-like' is now a nice quiet area.

mountainview still is pretty seedy, housing is real cheap though. what costs $400 a month for a one bedroom apt in mountainview, costs $800+ in any other part of town.

turnagain is 'upper-middle-class', you know, the first year lawyers.
hillside is the real 'upper class', the oilfield engineers, the doctors, lawyers who have made partner in their firms, pilots, that kinda thing.

mention those neighborhoods to her, she'll tell you which one she lives in.

"Ohhhhhhh, a "special" friend.

I assure you sir, I would look after your interests with all the honor of a Kennedy."

Your concern is duly noted. Your example of reference is also duly noted.

Fine Mal, what-ever.

malamute,

The nice thing is that everywhere, from Wal-Mart to the cop shops, sells pepper spray in the big AND small sizes. (Baby bears?)

As Wild said, nobody really cares, especially if the carrier is female.

I meant the skinny Kennedy by the way, I'm not really into the drowning thing.

what? oh yeah, forgot, you didnt want your location divulged....
i meant he live within 300 blocks of me. yeah, thats the ticket.

phewww, that was close!

Thanks for the info guys.

I'll tell her about the pepper availability. I'll also get her tuned up on the "stronger" stuff when she's here visiting. Hope I have enough ammo loaded and accessable. May have to visit my Dillon before she gets here.

I don't know which Kennedy is skinny, or what the differnce is, just assumed all were,.uh,...strongly interested in women. (couldn't figure out how to politely say "womanizers")

spiff,

My name is in my sig line and I'm in the white pages. I'm about to start handing out business cards with my picture on them.

I'm about as far from "low profile as i can get."

or, are you?

maybe you're so high profile you have come around full circle and are creeping up on the low profile?

alright, i gotta get out of the office, i'm starting to not make sense to myself anymore.
