Here is the reply I received from Florida Senator Bill Nelson to an email I sent urging support of S.659:

************************************************************
August 25, 2003

Dear Mr. :

Thank you for contacting me regarding S. 659, the Protection of Lawful
Commerce in Arms Act.

As you know, S. 659 seeks to prohibit civil liability actions from
being taken against manufacturers, distributors, dealers and importers of
firearms or ammunition for damages when guns have been improperly used.
Currently, the Senate Committee on the Judiciary is reviewing S. 659.
Similar legislation (H.R. 1036) has been introduced in the House.
Although I am not a member of the Judiciary Committee, I will keep your
views in mind should this legislation be considered by the full Senate.

While I support the constitutional right to bear arms, I also support
efforts to reduce gun violence and promote firearms safety. Every effort
must be made to ensure that our children, and society at-large, are
protected from firearms violence. I appreciate your letter. Your
communication helps me serve you better in the Senate.
************************************************************

Does anyone else read this and see any indication of support for S. 659?

 :(

Carlos, you're right there....

"Your communication helps me serve you better in the Senate."

This statement at the close of that letter conveys something of the arrogance and conceit with which our 'philosopher-kings' regard us.

Chris:
Even Bill is more polite than Bob Graham....Bob doesn't reply to "gun" communications any longer:banghead:

Be sure to tell everyone you know in Flordia what kind of a "double-speak dude" this Senator is when election time rolls around.

It's for the children .....

There's only one lie in there, and he probably doesn't consider it a lie: the part where he says he supports the 2nd Amendment.

The rest is absolutely true. If you read it carefully, it makes no commitment either way but implies that there's no way he'd ever consider voting for the bill.

I get the same kinds of responses from Dippy Dick Lugar, who voted to pass the AWB in 94. Another RINO who masquerades as a conservative back in Indiana, but votes left leaning moderate back in DC. (Must suppress urge to hurl........)

FWIW,

emc

Every time a politician invokes "the children" as an excuse for anything, I have an over powering urge to bitch-slap whatever conveys the information to me.

Bill Nelson invokes the children, he therefore is opposed to freedom, liberty and property.

How does one bitch-slap a computer monitor?

Magical Incantation

While I support the constitutional right to bear arms...

Usually followed by a "but" or an "also".

Has anyone ever recieved a communique from a congresscritter that either

a) didn't include this phrase, or
b) stated outright opposition to 2a?

Well?

It seems to me that there is the belief among our elected officials that uttering the magical incantation, devoid of meaning (to them) regarding 2A will save them next election time.

It's time we instruct them otherwise.

Senator speak

"While I support the constitutional right to bear arms, "

What happend to "keep"? or is that a part of the Constitution that he has chosen not to support?

As usual, Standing Wolf......

you identify the problem concisely.:)

The problem with Florida was that our friend Connie Mack decided to retire and Bill Nelson had a higher profile as a former state Treasurer, than the pro-gun candidate who ran as a Republican to replace Connie..

I sure didn't vote for Bill, and he sure doesn't care what I think....but somehow, since he's getting paid to represent me, that doesn't seem just .
