I have had this 1911 for almost a year. I have carried it a few times. I haven't shot it very much because the sights are bad.
I think I have decided that I will see about sending it to Springfield to get it fixed. Has anyone had any experience with sending a gun back to Springfield?

8 shots from me and 8 shots from BIL today.

It consistantly shoots 6 inches low at 10 yards.

Perhaps your gripping it too hard? A tight grip will cause it to shoot low. Its obviously gruping great. So I doubt its the handgun. If you try a new tad bit looser grip, and it still shoots horribly low, id try sending it back then.

I sent my TRP Operator back for service. Right thumb safety broke, grip safety had uneven gaps (not a big deal, unless it's a $$$ pistol), and I didn't like the sandy OEM grips. Pistol came back in around three weeks, new thumb safety, clean lines around the grip safety, cocobolo grips. I had to pay shipping there, though. Debbie was very polite and friendly with emails.

Go ahead and send it back, they'll take care of you. Or, do as I did with my Loaded: Take a file to the front sight. Seems a lot of Springfields hit a little low, at least according to postings on 1911forum.com.

Good luck,

I sent one back because it was self destruction a couple of years ago. By the time everything was said and done they had it for 16 of 22 weeks.

I promtly got rid of it and never bought another.

SA customer service is great. They've taken good care of my 1911 on the one time I sent it back for night sights to be added.

Don't get mad, but have you had a buddy watch you and do ball-and-dummy drills to make sure you aren't flinching?

Sent my TRP back to SA for shootinig low, had it back in a week shooting to POA. I wish they had raised the rear sight rather than lowering the front sight so far, but I did not specify. I guess they didn't want to pay for an extra tritium vial.

Thanks guys.

I will contact Springfield. Maybe I can pay a little to have a tritium sight put on the front. That might be an option since they have to fix it anyway.

I made the grips out of a rare Australian Wood. It is called Red Mahlee.

I am a fair shot and my Brother in Law is too. It is definately the gun that shoots that low. Both of our groups on in that picture. 8 shots each.
