I’m thinking about purchasing a Sig Romeo 5 red dot, so I started pricing them.

Sig themselves on their site lists their MSRP at $140. Palmeto State Armory, where I‘ll probably buy it, lists theirs at $120, nice discount.

Now here’s where it gets crazy. Brownell’s wants $170, in other words a whopping $30 OVER list. All are the same SOR52001 model.
What are they thinking?

I’ve included links to all three sites, I ain’t making this up. Lots of fakes out there too though, some on EBay are $82 new, yes, too good to be true.

That is an excellent example of capitalism. Brownell's may sell a few to those who do not shop around but the others will sell many more. The choice is selling a few at a high profit margin or selling a lot at a lower profit margin.

I don't trust much on the jungle site to be "real". I know there is a lot of fakes out there, and a good bit of "gray market" items as well.

If I want the real thing then I will go someplace I can trust, amazon is not that.

Like anywhere else, you have to pay attention. The major makers have "stores" and sell on Amazon too, and in the case above, that's right from the Sig Sauer store.

I always shop around, and more often than not, Amazon has ended up being the best deal, especially when you already have Prime and shipping is usually free and pretty quick. And if for some reason you arent happy, they take it right back and make things right with very little fuss or bother and no cost to you.

I looked at the site you had linked on Amazon, they say it’s a “small business“. So although they call themselves the Sig store, they may not be Sig themselves. Also, 3% of the ratings, the one stars, identified them as fakes.

We also buy a lot on Amazon, but as you say, you still have to be careful. The free shipping is great, we send a lot of stuff through them to our son and his family in HI. Shipping costs to there are often prohibitive, they still ship there for free.
