I've been asked to reopen this thread for the posting of new information.

It gets to stay open as long as it's civil and high-road.

The gist : 5+ surgeries so far; over $30,000 donated nationally, the money is being held in trust specifically for her medical care. If something happens to her, the trust gets reallocated to charities instead of her parents.

Keep traffic on-topic, please.

Carry on.

More Flies

That's enough.

The reason THIS post is #104 is that I had to delete the previous #104.

I can't seem to leave this thread open.

We have people showing up, reading the first few posts, and then spouting off with low-road crap about what should happen to the guy or what they would do to him.

That kind of wisdom we can just plain do without.

If there's any further developments in this case, please start a new thread. I'm tired of having to sweep up after lazy, easily angered, poor self-control fools who can't keep their finger off the trigger.

Any more of that and we're done here.

I'm reading this thread at work, and literally crying at my desk. Not at the original story--I've nearly become numb to criminal asshattery, and Alexis's actions choked me up a bit, but didn't bring tears.

Post 102 (thanks, Arfin) made me cry.

$30k donated--based on previous posts, probably including many members of THR--and more to come, I'm sure.

I was reading another thread over at the 1911 Forum, talking about how kind and warm gunowners are. Sharing our toys, not even asking for a contribution to the ammo fund, like there's nothing to it. That's cool, but it's a shared interest--we all know it'll be our turn someday, or already has been, to shoot somebody else's cool toy.

But this--wow. Stories like this remind me that people are fundamentally decent. The Brady Bunch loves to paint us as bloodthirsty rednecks, sorry sonsufbitches who don't care about anything but themselves. No doubt the usual suspects are already sounding their all-too-familiar calls, using this tragedy as an excuse to make it even harder for mom to defend herself against somebody who was already forbidden to have the gun he used.

I wonder how much they've donated?

Call me crazy, but I'd much rather have the shooters as friends--as family--than the antis. Seems like a much more caring bunch.

Good News!!!
Channel 7 (WXYZ in Detroit) Reports that today she was released from the hospital.

DETROIT (AP) - A Detroit girl who was shot six times while jumping to her mother's defense has been released from the hospital.

Seven-year-old Alexis Goggins was released on Wednesday and is living with her mother at her grandfather's Detroit-area home.

Police say Seliethia Parker was being threatened at gunpoint on Dec. 2 by a former boyfriend in a sport utility vehicle when her daughter jumped into her arms.

Bullets struck Alexis' right eye, chin and jaw. She now is blind in that eye and had several surgeries before her release.

Parker has said Alexis was trying to save her from the attack.

Calvin Tillie is charged with two counts of assault with intent to commit murder and faces a Feb. 14 competency hearing. The Associated Press left a message Thursday seeking comment from Tillie's court-appointed attorney.

I know that this is a really old thread, but the system takes time.

As of May 1

DETROIT (Map, News) - A former convict on parole who is accused of shooting a 7-year-old girl six times at point-blank range has been ordered to stand trial.

Calvin Tillie is charged with two counts of assault with intent to commit murder, along with other offenses.

The prosecutor's office says a judge in Detroit on Thursday ruled there was enough evidence to bind the 29-year-old Tillie over for trial in Wayne Circuit Court. His next court date was set for May 8.

A message seeking comment was left Thursday with Tillie's lawyer Kim Basen Michon.

Alexis Goggins was shot when she threw herself between a gun and her mother in December. She lost her right eye and underwent six surgeries.

Despite Alexis' efforts, her mother, Seliethia Parker, was shot twice.
