Shall Issue CCW is coming to San Diego County and to all of California.

Seems like a lot of celebration for something that has not yet happened.

Thank you for that very much needed splash of cold water. I’ve been hearing the CRPA claim California is going to get shall-issue for about 20 years now. California’s gun laws are not some fluke, they are an accurate reflection of the desires of the overwhelmingly anti-gun-owner electorate. Even if this case does somehow force shall-issue in California, there will be retaliation from both the legislature and the general public.

That may be true, but they are issuing CCWs based on Self Defense only by the bushel in Sacramento County
Outside of LA and SF areas there are LOTS of counties that issue and the list is getting longer. The general public has its head in the sand over this issue.

I don't care to live there, but I DO want CCW in California because I ultimately want reciprocity with other states! I'd love to visit CA but it's painful to leave the gun at home.

Sacramento was a major change of direction for CCW. Being the State Capitol, there is a certain amount of visibility involved and Sacto Co had been a may issue county where CCW was all but unknown

Yeah, it was sweet to turn a high profile county like that, sure was a lot better than having Modoc Co. roll over!

Sadly though Sacramento isn't a "power city" in CA like San Francisco and Los Angeles are. Even though it is the capital it lacks the profile and gumption that the other major cities do. When's the last time you paid attention to something that Albany, NY had to say instead of hearing about it in NYC?

LOL Im a city boy, what is a "bushel" is it alot or is it something negative...
A bushel is a colloquial term meaning 'a lot' (it's defined as a quantity of 8 gallons, as 'bushel basket').

Used to be parts of word problems for fourth graders .... These days the most use is in selling dry commodities - corn and wheat are given prices per bushel.

Great article. I am hopeful, but not celebrating just yet. After all, it's not hard to find an ultra-liberal-activist federal judge these days. The plaintiff and his attorneys made a solid case... we'll have to see if the judgment agrees.

In Riverside county especially the attitudes about guns and ownership are the same as in Tn/Texas. They have had liberalism shoved down their throats. On the other hand they are too laid back, and allowed liberalism to take their rights. They have noticed their mistakes and are now rectifying it. GoCal.

Of all the fights, I think the fight for CCW is the biggest and one of the most important. I am glad to see that folks in CA seem to think the same.

Ditto. Being able to carry daily is infinitely more likely to save my life than being able to own so-called "assault weapons".

Millertyme - In about half of California's counties, CCW is easily obtainable, so don't write off the whole state. But forget about it if you are near LA or San Francisco.

In my county it was very easy to get one. In Fresno county just north of me, the sheriff was quoted in the paper saying that she kept applications in her car and encouraged people to apply.

▪ These letters must be written by local residents and contain a local address and phone number. Letters will not be accepted from any relatives. The writer must also acknowledge he or she understands the letter is for an application for a concealed weapons license.

That would be a problem for me as I literally have zero friends. Just my family and fiance, then her family. Guess my in-laws wouldn't count either.

This is great news. They have to take it a step farther, and I suspect they will, so that they can get rid of the onerous requirements. I am strongly looking at moving to California for the freedoms they offer in regards to personal choice. This would be an excellent benefit as well. Unfortunately I do not know anybody and have no references to provide, which is why I feel that some of the requirements have to go. I also feel that the cost of the license is prohibitive and may prevent lower income people from applying.

Not this time.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news:

ORDER (1) denying 34 Plaintiff's Motion for Partial Summary Judgment; and (2) granting 38 Defendant's Motion for Summary Judgment: the Court concludes that Defendant's policy does not infringe on Plaintiffs' right to bear arms or violate equal protection, the right to travel, the Privileges and Immunities Clause of Article IV, or due process. Accordingly, the Court denies Plaintiffs' Motion for Summary Judgment and grants Defendant's Motion for Summary Judgment. Signed by Judge Irma E. Gonzalez on 12/10/10. (lmt) (Entered: 12/10/2010)

Onward and upward, hopefully our side, the side of freedom and liberty, can obtain legal fees at some point. The SCOTUS has ruled, the lower courts merely expend the funds of the citizen when they rule otherwise.

Really ticks me off that we have to ask for permission from states, and pay fees, to exercise our 2A rights. But it ticks me off more when states make the burden so unreasonable as to discourage exercising the right, or basically create unreasonable barriers. Why does your right hinge on letters from other people??? Amazing that Judges, licensed attorneys, can so badly foul up the US Constitution that they pledged to uphold, and that they really demonstrate their total lack of understanding of Due Process, Equal Protection, and other fundamental rights.
