This appeared in San Antonio Texas newspaper today.

Police are looking for two thieves who robbed an off-duty Bexar County sheriff's deputy.

The off-duty Bexar county deputy was at a carwash washing his personal motorcycle about 11:00 p.m. on Monday when two armed men walked up.

They noticed he had some lights on his bike, and asked if he was a law officer.

He told them he was. In spite of that, they took his wallet and a 40-caliber handgun.

The deputy wasn't hurt.

Another case of being in "Condition White". We are from San Antonio. My wife is bad about not paying attention to her surroundings. I am in Iraq and constantly reminding her that "Bad people are everywhere".

Man, that's embarassing. But, if they got the drop on him then he's behind the curve. What can you do, but hope that they won't shoot if you give them what they want?

Deputy robbed

Wow! Welcome to the new L.A. They have his ID and gun, just great.

At least his wife now knows who his mistress is and why he comes home so late smelling of fresh soap.

Wow thats crazy, my girlfriend sometimes has the habit of washing her car late. I always advise her against it even with me in the car. I let her know that you have to avoid putting yourself in might be a bad situation and without me not being able to carry yet, it will not be a good one.

Remember , only the police should have guns. If private citizens have guns the BGs will just take them away

I think this has more to do with the first poor choice of washing your bike at 11:00PM. I know most of the self serve car washes in my area are not in the best part of town to begin with, then, you go at 11:00 at night?

What's Missing In The Equation?

My first move would have been to interpose the bike between me and the BGs, if possible. Then 200 PSI of scalding-hot soapy water would give me more time to clear my weapon. Seems like this story lacks an intelligent beginning and end. ???????? I guess the BGs complied with the "Molon Labe", eh?

without me not being able to carry yet
It is still legal to carry a rifle or shotgun in your car (in Texas). It is now legal to carry a handgun in your car (in Texas) as long as you keep it out of "plain view".

You sit in the car and let your girlfriend wash the car for you? :scrutiny:

Wow. Everyone here are in constant states of yellow, even performing tasks like polishing chrome. Commendable, if true. Unrealistic, most likely.

Now it has been a while since I used a public car wash, but as I recall it wouldn't take too much to walk up on someone distracted with why they are there. It is a place where people driving up and getting out in close proximity while people's attention is devided, after all.

As for the details... we don't really have much, do we?

It takes guts though to walk up to someone you already suspect is a police officer who is more than likely armed, and proceed to rob them...

*sniff* *sniff*

Something does not smell right to me.

Granted I was not there.

I clicked that link, and read a short news item, and that was it. This whole incident does not smell right.

I don't care who one is, or how many hours of training they have, there is no way in hell one can be in condition yellow 24/7/365.

The human body will simply not allow itself to be in a constant state of alert.
It will shut down from time to time, it will take short breaks, it will drift to white, it has to, the human anatomy and physiology is designed to protect itself.

So this person is a Sheriff?
Just like Doctors, Nurses , Rad Tech and others, that work extended shifts, one is not at full tilt boogie during 12/24/36 hour shifts.

So my gut asks if...IF...this guy had pulled multiple shifts why didn't the article mention it?
Is this paper prone to bash LEOs?

Then again maybe he was out on a bike doing UC work and there is more to all this, and the story is a "draw" for a bigger something going down.

None of my business, not my place to meddle or bash, heck even if the guy was running around on his wife/gf and got flat footed is none of my business.

Just something about this whole deal does not smell right to me.
It would interesting to see any follow ups to this incident though.

I agree with sm. There is more to this story somewhere.

It's easy to be a copbasher or internet commando/ninja.

I don't think it necessarily is LEO Bashing. Police are not immune from violent crime, they're the same as anyone else. When I was in law enforcement we had a female officer that was a victim of abuse for years. She finally ended up getting killed by her ex.

And you're right. The body can't be alert 24/7.

I will follow up with the newspaper on this story. I agree it is pretty brazen to know that it was a cop and then still hold him up. That same day serveral other people got robbed in San Antonio, as I am sure in other cities as well. The San Antonio Express newspaper has always been pretty level in reporting.
