What are your opinions on Shilen barrels? I'm considering a Select Match Grade. Do any of you have experiences with Shilen barrels and if so how's the accuracy?
Just put a #3 contour barrel on a Remington 700 build I did recently. I have not done a lot of testing with it but initial results were very promising.
Here is the rifle...
Here is the target from the first outing. once I get more time I will do some more load developement to see what I can get out of her but I think it will be an easy sub moa rifle.
I've had a few and have not been disappointed. One was set back 3 times as the throat wore - still excellent accuracy. There are better barrels, but for informal paper punching and prairie dogs, they are excellent.
I've had more than a couple of Shilen barrels over the years and they're excellent. No regrets or complaints at all. They shoot well, and clean up very easily.
I am partial to kreiger but douglas and shilen are right there. You can have the best barrel and not up to par smithy miss up that great barrel with a poorly done fit chamber or crown. Fine a very good smithy. Many also have there own preference to brand.
