I am looking for a relatively cheap and very shiny 1911 for range fun. I would like to keep it as cheap as possible, under $500 and love the look of Nickel PLated or Bright Stainless or chrome. I have no idea who makes one in this price range if anyone. Please let me know if there are any options. Every one that I have seen has been way out of my price range. THanks!!

Does Rock Island have a website? WHich of their models are shiny and how much do they go for?

They don't really have a website. The people whose guns they import, Armscor, does, but it isn't much of a resource on what is and isn't a part of the Rock Island line at any given time. The nickeled .45s were going for $420 or something like that a little while back. See, the thing about it is that they only make the polished nickel guns in batches; at one point, they only had a shiny nickel .38 super, and recently had a shiny .45, which I can't find on centerfiresystems.com anymore.

There is a couple listed on Gunbroker, but they want over 500 for them. Can find them cheaper if you take your time to look.

Here you go!!

This one sure is shiny!!

Get yourself a Rock Island Armory (RIA) 1911. Sometimes you'll see them labeled Armscor instead of RIA. It's the same gun either way.

When I was in the market for my very first 1911, I wanted something inexpensive and as close to the original military model as possible. I saw a bunch of no-frills RIA/Armscor guns for very very attractive prices, but the guy at the shop talked me into a Springfield Armory GI.45 1911 instead.

Don't get me wrong. The SA 1911 is lovely, and I'm happy with it NOW, but I paid a little more for it than I would've paid for an RIA model, and it wasn't reliable out of the box. I had to send it back to Springfield Armory for some work before it was reliable. Also, the plain grips on RIA 1911s are probably closer to original issue than the checkered ones on the Springfield Armory 1911 that say "U.S." on the side.

Where can I get some info on Rock Island Armory?? I need to know what model I am looking for and I can't seem to find a website. Thanks
