Been there, done that many times. I do believe it is UPS policy to ship an entire firearm from their "hub store" only. You know, the one that's open literally 2-4 hrs per day! If it's not an intact firearm or serialized portion of a firearm, DON'T mention anything about firearms, as it's irrelevant to the transaction. UPS will never get my business again after numerous crushed, filthy boxes that looked like they'd been left in the monkeyhouse at the zoo for a week. I have a C&R FFL and set up an account at FedEx and received a discounted shipping rate. They're luckily staffed by seemingly intelligent, pleasant employees.
