I started working up another order of for powder and I never really thought about how many different ones I use. I was shocked when I tallied it all up.

YIKES, I need to consolidate a bit.

Here is a short list of what I have on hand right now (and this is very tapped down):

aa9
aa7
aa5
aa2
longshot
titegroup
universal
imr4895
imr4350
imr4831
imr3031
imr4064
power pistol
blue dot
2400
reloader 7
xmr 2495
bullseye

Now for the ones I am out of currently:

varget
blc2
retumobo
irm7828 (normal or ssc)
unique
trail boss
231
h110
h4227
800x

This does not even get to the new ones I want to try or some of the old standby's I don't use often like:

296
760
748
700x
h1000

Then there are the brands I should really try like
Vithourvouir (poorly spelled I know)
The Reloader series like RL22 and RL15 (never even tried them)
What about the Western Powders (Like TAC or Ramshot)

I had no real idea I used so many different powders and I was quite surprised how many I was out of. Looks like I need to figure out how many lbs to order and call up Powder Valley. It is almost embarassing to realize how out of powder I was.

Anyone else make a recent tally of the powder supplies and have a surprising discovery?

In stock...The powders that I use on a daily basis:

W-231
2400
H4831SC
W-748
W-296

I also keep one powder that I am experimenting with. This month it is HS-6. At preasent I find it not to my liking... :(

I just came back from my local dealer and had bought 2 1lb cans of powder that I thought I was low on. When I opened up my powder storage I was shocked to find that I already had 2 of each on the shelf. :) I guess I need to load more. I'm much more boring than you are:

Bullseye
Unique
Titegroup
H110
AA#5
AA#9
H335

Have a good one,
Dave

Full pound of AA#5, another AA#5 with a little left in it, (no, I don't mix powder lots when reloading!), AA#2 with a couple hundred 9mm loads left in it, and then H-335 for the rifles, also running dry. I need more powder, too.... :p

I have Bullseye, Unique, 2400, H-110, AA 5744, IMR 3031, IMR 4064, FFG, and FFFG on hand. The supply of most are running low and like you I need to order.

If you're ordering I just got a flyer from Natchez where they are picking up 1/2 of the hazmat fee if you buy 5lbs or more. I'm not sure if they're price competitive with where you buy now . . . just passing along.

Regards,
Dave

I'm a piker compared to you guys.......one full can of AA#7, one half-full can of AA#5, and one almost full can of Clays.

Gotta get caught up darn it....lol :neener:

Evry time I move I remember how much powder I have. I am pretty much right there with you ~25 different containers. The problem is that quite a few are 8lbs. Today I only use like 4 different ones but I used to really expiriment more.

Wow. I only use a half dozen or so of those newfangled smokeyless propellants. I do, however, have roughly 35 pounds of black powder (in various granulations) at the moment, not to mention 21 pounds of Hodgdon Triple Seven and about a dozen pounds of APP (APP and 777 are both modern black powder subs). When you're buying black powder, it's cheaper to buy by the 25 pound case. You also use a whole heck of a lot of it quickly, especially, when loading it in shotshells (90 grains each!).

Does any one else just play a lot with powders?

I have found only a few perfect loads, but the rest are in flux.

Unique and the 380 auto and the 88 jhp
imr 4895 and the 308 (for an M1A) and the 168 seirra
Bullseye and the 45 and 230 fmj

The rest of my rounds are all sort of in testing. I just can't find the perfect load....

I consider it the "fun" of reloading....

This thread just made me look at my powder stock, I'm out of control! At this moment I have 28 different powders in stock! Some of the rifle powders have not been used for over 20 years as I've not reloaded for rifle since then. Most of the others get used infrequently but are nice to have when trying something new or different. I probably use 5 or 6 powders fairly often loading for 12&20 ga shotgun, .38/.357, 9mm, .44sp&mag and .45acp. I guess I'll have to see if there are any 12 step programs for this addiction. Nick

I know the feeling I have a powder issue myself. 26 pound of powder on the self. But two 8 pounds kegs are included in that number. My last order form Midway was $398 and that was just bullets and a 100 pieces of brass. I thought I saved money by reloading :banghead:

Eeek. Is this what I have to look forward to, powder by the ton, brass and bullets falling all over the place? Well, let's get started!!! :D

Wow, I'm obviously quite an amature. I only have about 3/4 of a 1lb container of Titegroup. Of course, I'm just learning this reloading thing and I'm only reloading for 1 caliber in 1 gun. I've only loaded about 500 rounds or so, so far too.

Well, gee, 60 pounds in my dry, cool basement storage seems about right for what I load. Should be good for about 40,000 rounds. What about primers ? got enough to match your powder supply ?

Wow, I never thought about powder envy before. My inventory is just a couple pounds of Triple 7 and a 4lb jug of Universal. Of course that's all I really need for shooting BP revolvers and loading 20ga for skeet.

Now I know why my new neighbor's eye bugged out of his head when he came over and saw the powder shelf in my garage.

Unique
Red Dot
Green Dot
Herco
Clays
International
Universal
Titewad
Longshot
WSF
WST
700-x
Steel
Nitro 100
Solo 1250

Plus Rem, CCI, and Win 209 Primers, various wads and boxes and boxes of Hulls. Sorry but I find reloading the same recipe over and over again is [homer] BORING [\homer]

Yes, the both cars still fit in the garage, and are parked inside every night. :neener:

My local supplier said they will have Trail boss on tuesday afternoon. They got in 40 cans and it was gone in one day. They are getting 40 more on tuesday. I will get at least 4 of them and then I will stock up on other powders.

I figure I will pick up about 20 lbs of powder and maybe 10,000 more primers to go with the 30,000 I picked up a few weekends back. I find I can get more in the house if I buy in smaller blocks then dumping a grand at once.

Payday - more primers and maybe a pound of H335....cooler weather is coming up, and vacation time, so maybe I can shoot up some of those experimental rifle rounds I made!

thanks guys got to do an inventory ! , last time I looked I had enough to cause the local F.D. some concern as for primers one of my buddies who got out of firearms ( wife has mental illness issues) he gave me 2 bricks of federal smalls and acouple of bricks of others so I am set with primers for a while . now to start loading up the 45-70's :)

I used to use about a dozen types...then started consolidating after analysing the test shooting data...and am now standardized on only two, which I buy in bulk...#4895 ($79/8-lb) for rifle (.223 NATO, 6.5 Jap, 6.5x55 Swede, .308 Win, .30-06, 7.7 Jap, .303 Brit, 8-mm Mauser, .45-70) and #231 for pistol (9-mm Mak, 9-mm Luger, .38-Spl, .357 Mag, .40 S&W, .45 Auto, and .45 Colt). It's nice to remove any doubt about what powder is in the measure! And I reload a lot! :D
