I went out into the backyard after work. After successfully defending my home from the tin cans I thought I would try to shoot from the hip. It didn't go to well. I couldn't hit the can :D . If I had more time I could have set up a paper target so see what my grouping was.

Has anyone tried to shoot from the hip? How did it go?

hip shooting

I was a young man when I met Terry Tussey, Jim Beck old school shooters from OC calif,Back in the 80`s those men were deadly from the hip i never saw them miss? Over the years i`ve been shooting from the hip and have improved but since i started shooting almost everyday I to have become a good hip shooter the last two years and 15 or so rattlers i haven`t used the sights on any of them and most are head shots. So keep shooting and it will become as easy as pointing your finger.

i shoot from the hip at three yds. draw bang bang from the hip, pull up to the high ready push out while stepping back and firring two more to the chest and one to the head, keep backing up till i hit the 15yd line, reload, and walk back foward reloading were necessary in the middle of the drill. The hip shooting is mostly for putting rds down range at the target while the gun is being brough to the high ready position. it is more of a mental thing for the enemy to deal with, it really isn't meant to hit the guy but if it does than thats a + for me! Just when am doing cqb drills sometimes, but most of the time the range master dosen't allow it. when i get a cool cat running the range i do all kinds of crazy stuff!

"Hip" shooting done properly requires some type of index. You must either visually index the gun (look "through" the entire gun, or look over top of the slide/barrel), or physically index it or your shooting arm or hand against your body. This index must be consistent every time.
