.22 rounds

I have a semi-auto mossberg .22. It of course it is made to fire .22 LR. My question is: if I can fit a .22 short into the chamber can I shoot .22 shorts? I realize it won't cylce and I can't put the shorts in the magazine and all that, but can't I still fire it one round at a time. What about magnum rounds as well?

If you can thread a .22 short into the chamber it will fire.

A .22 magnum is a larger, longer cartridge and will not chamber in a .22 lr gun.
