Shooting "rampage"??

The other day, a man here in Iowa walked into a bowling alley with a .44 Magnum rifle (don't know if it was a lever-action or a Ruger semi-auto). He then shot and killed a man who he accused of having an affair with his wife. He shot the rifle 4 times, hitting the victim each time. The shooter was subdued by others in the bowling alley. The paper called it a "shooting rampage!" Sounds pretty well premeditated to me; 4-shots, 4-hits, all shots received by the same victim. What do you think?

That's not a Rampage. That's Murder 1.

The word Rampage says to me multiple victims.

BTW how many shots would he have got off in Arizona, Texas, or Vermont?

A native born Texican would have probably had "the drop" on the shooter just as he walked into the establishment. Probably he would have said something along the lines of, "Son, for your sake and mine, I'm hoping you've made a mistake on where the Gun Show is; for if you're not, your in a heap a trouble boy, for sure!", followed by the sound of,"ca-click!"

Well, yeah, but "shooting rampage" sounds lots scarier than "murder." Good news doesn't sell papers, and lurid headlines help advance the cause of anti-Second Amendment bigotry.

Probably the same, unless at least one person in the establishment was armed, paying attention instead of watching a game, and not impaired by alcohol. Even if an armed person was sufficiently sober and alert, was the murderer concealing the weapon somehow, and did he look normal as he walked in? In that case, a good Samaritan would have to draw and fire one well-placed shot before the perpetrator, his rifle already leveled, could fire a mere four rounds, probably at close range (as he connected on every shot). Not being practiced in combat pistol-shooting, I wonder how many people are prepared to do that.

4 shots from a 44 magnum rifle?! MAN!!! Undoubtedly the man was already dead after the first shot.

Since he only had 5 shots total I'm guessing it was a Ruger

No one would have probably paid any attention until he started shooting, unless it was to think: "cool rifle"

Anyway, sounds like a little disagreement among "friends" - I hope it didn't upset the bowlers too much for the rest of the evening.

Might be a good idea to put "messing around with another man's wife" on your list of "at risk behaviors"

Had I been in that bowling alley and carrying my first objective when gunshots were fired was to find adequate cover and then asses the situation.

By that time the shooter might have gotten all 4 shots off. Dont know how fast he got them shots off using a lever gun.

Like I said before, the safety of myself and my loved ones comes first.

See a gun or hear shots, find cover and then assess the situation. Take appropriate action as needed.

This is one of the reasons I would never sleep with a married woman.
Another reason is my wife would kill me.
The headlines would read:

Wife goes on a killing spree shooting her husband!
Woman goes on a shooting rampage firing one shot!

What do I think?

I think the victim was careless in conducting the affair, otherwise the husband wouldn't have known just who to shoot or where to find them.

A domestic dispute may have lead to a shooting at a Glenwood bowling alley Sunday, which claimed the life of Donald Mark Mayberry, 47, of Glenwood.

Mayberry was bowling on an outside lane near an exit door when witnesses saw Dennis Stonerook, 44, of Pacific Junction, walk through the side door and begin shooting Mayberry with a short barreled .44 magnum rifle, Glenwood Police Chief John O'Connor said.

Stonerook fired four shots, all of which hit Mayberry in the upper body, before he was tackled by several people, including bowling alley owner Mike Cap. There was still one live round left in the rifle at the time Stonerook was tackled, O'Connor said. He was charged with first degree murder and willful injury and is being held at the Mills County Jail on $250,000 bond.

Cap said he was in the kitchen about 6:30 p.m. when he heard a scream and a shot. Dozens of people were inside the bowling alley at the time, including several children, police said.

"I knew right away it was a gun," Cap said. "I saw him shoot Mark twice while he was on the ground."

Cap said another man, who happened to be a jailer from Omaha, managed to reach the gunman first. Cap and a third person then joined him to subdue the suspect, he said.

Cap said the victim had been bowling on a mixed league team with Stonerook's wife, Linda Stonerook. Police said that Linda Stonerook had filed for divorce but it was unclear whether she and Dennis Stonerook were separated.

"I heard they were going out, but I don't know," Cap said, referring to Linda Stonerook and the victim. "She has bowled mixed leagues for a long time."

Mayberry, who has four children, also had recently been divorced, according police said.
