I had dressed up my Victory 22 with the volquartsen i fluted barrel with comp and out fitted it with an ultradot matchdot 2. (dressed up it's probably $880)I had brought it to the range before one time and this is it's second outing. For comparison I brought my old ruger mark 2 bought used a few years ago($300).

I find the upgraded victory to be a little top heavy with that red dot. The control knob for the illumination level and the elevation knobs have mushy detents. The polarizing filter is a little more of an issue as it sometimes rotates and the view goes completely dark since my clip ons are also polarized. I could shoot without it but the coloration looks better with the filter on and I'd have to use higher illumination levels. Periodically I'd have to adjust it. I was initially shooting the victory with cci standard velocity and later with some minimags but towards the latter half I reverted back to using the federal automatch. All of the 50 yard shots were with automatch in both guns and it still did well. I alternated between the red dot equipped victory and the ruger with iron sights. I shot steel at 25 and 50 yrds.

Must be being new to red dots and trying to hit the 3 inch center of the gong at 25 yrds, I became more conscious of wobble even with the non magnified view. I actually think I shoot better with the ruger at 25 yrds compared to the victory but at 50 yrds the victory was the clear winner. I was also more wary of canting the gun at 25 yrds given the red dot off set. At 50 yrds with a smaller target picture I think I automatically keep the gun more upright without thinking about it. Bottom line is I tend to think more about shooting with the victory at closer ranges. Regarding the comp, I think it looks cool. Since I'm not blasting away fast, I don't think it's too useful for me. Honestly though it's one of the reason's I bought that barrel.

here's a link to the videos of both guns . see the wind pick up at the end. hits go down but every hit seems to count more.

I will probably get a Victory in the future, to help train my son to shoot handguns.

Good videos! The barrel looks pretty neat on the Victory. Could definitely see the wind picking up quite a bit towards the end of your shooting session.

thank you ... i watch them every so often once i make them. makes me remember the experience.

i was thinking of adding one more segment on the victory at 50 yrds just to show what the other lane's target looked like by then but it was too long as it is. it had broken off by then and was still swaying in the wind but i only hit the target 2 times, not videoworthy...

keep in mind these are the nicer clips there are a lot of hohum clips as well. not worth anybody's time to watch..

i had done a video on upgrading the victory. went on a little too long but if you jump to the end you'll see the pistol after the upgrades closer up.

This is the one sticking point that I would have a problem with, the fact that there's nearly $900 tied up in this gun as it currently is set-up. For that kind of money I might be able to turn up a well used but in still in decent condition S&W Model 41.

My question is what do you consider this pistol to be with all the add-ons? Is it a very nice, but a bit of a high priced plinker or does it have the potential to be an actual target pistol?

i would rather have gotten a slab side ruger mark 2 with the long barrel or even a mark 3 than getting the victory after discovering it wasn't much better than the old ruger. i do like the takedown.

as it was, the base gun was 375 and the barrel was 280. when I found i was shooting no better than with my mark 2 i was disapppinted and so i painted over the fiber optic and did better and still kept pining for the slab side but i figured another 280 would be cheaper than buying the $550 ruger target competition. that's my decision tree on buying the barrel. i would expect that its performance currently is at worst still equal to the slab.side.

probably won't move the red dot but i could always use that on a 10/22 which my son is now enjoying so i dont necessatily cosider that tied up in the gun. so the comparison should be with a used model 41 with an ultradot.

i don't compete. all my guns are plinkers and home defense, but i do want accurate guns. as i mentioed i think i shot better at 25 yds with my $300 ruger.

now that i have it im going to enjoy it as much as i can.

one thing to add as it is. I lost my itch for getting a gp100 22. afte upgrading this pistol so that save me money as well.

Thanks for the insight into your decision making process on the Victory. I also appreciate accurate guns, especially in my .22s.

I'm also thinking about getting a Victory 22. I have a Ruger Mark II and a S&W 22A so I don't need another semi-auto 22 but what does need have to do with anything lol?

The Ruger is a full blown Clark Custom gun and the most accurate handgun I have shot.
