I had dressed up my Victory 22 with the volquartsen i fluted barrel with comp and out fitted it with an ultradot matchdot 2. (dressed up it's probably $880)I had brought it to the range before one time and this is it's second outing. For comparison I brought my old ruger mark 2 bought used a few years ago($300).
I find the upgraded victory to be a little top heavy with that red dot. The control knob for the illumination level and the elevation knobs have mushy detents. The polarizing filter is a little more of an issue as it sometimes rotates and the view goes completely dark since my clip ons are also polarized. I could shoot without it but the coloration looks better with the filter on and I'd have to use higher illumination levels. Periodically I'd have to adjust it. I was initially shooting the victory with cci standard velocity and later with some minimags but towards the latter half I reverted back to using the federal automatch. All of the 50 yard shots were with automatch in both guns and it still did well. I alternated between the red dot equipped victory and the ruger with iron sights. I shot steel at 25 and 50 yrds.
Must be being new to red dots and trying to hit the 3 inch center of the gong at 25 yrds, I became more conscious of wobble even with the non magnified view. I actually think I shoot better with the ruger at 25 yrds compared to the victory but at 50 yrds the victory was the clear winner. I was also more wary of canting the gun at 25 yrds given the red dot off set. At 50 yrds with a smaller target picture I think I automatically keep the gun more upright without thinking about it. Bottom line is I tend to think more about shooting with the victory at closer ranges. Regarding the comp, I think it looks cool. Since I'm not blasting away fast, I don't think it's too useful for me. Honestly though it's one of the reason's I bought that barrel.
here's a link to the videos of both guns . see the wind pick up at the end. hits go down but every hit seems to count more.
