I read another post on here somewhere that briefly mentioned the fact that some Korean shop owner held off the rioters with AK's and it got me curious for more information so I searched the web and didn't come up with many hard details. I found a lot of pro-gun articles that left you thinking from the few quick excerpts that every Korean in L.A. had an AK-47 for protection.

I'm not doubting that it's not true but I'm wondering if anyone here has any good information on the details of where this is all coming from?

I have not seen references to shopowners of any ethnic group carrying or bearing Kalashnikovs of any type during the L.A. riots of 1992, but I have a photo somewhere of a shopowner (uncertain if he is Korean) with a Daewoo carbine that may be during the time of the riots. The column was from TIME magazine, and in a most hypocritical manner, was reporting that the NRA was going to take advantge of the L.A. riots to promote ownership of firearms for protective purposes.

And that is wrong because.... :D

No comment. :D (recent experience with two Koreans with Daewoo carbines....) ;)

I think the LA times (fwiw) had some back stories saved from the LA riots on their webpage, I was checking them out last summer during the Jeremy Morse/Donovan Jackson ordeal.

Edited to fix smilies :banghead:

On the topic of the LA Riots . . . I vaguely remember the medio reporting about 5 dozen people died in the violence, but there was NO demographic info - ages, ethnicity, criminal records (or absence of same), their actions at time of death, etc.

I wonder how many were innocents killed by a mob, and how many were, well, not-so-innocent, done in by an intended victim or a fellow looter or rioter?

We have a TFL/THR member that was in in LA during the riots. According to him the majority of the people he saw that were armed were armed with shotguns. I have seen pictures (on TFL and THR) of Korean guys with pistols, shotguns and ARs. I have never seen any with AKs.
