..and its kinda messed up my gun buying plans. ;)

Since i have a pretty large gap between my kel-tec p32 and beretta 92fs, i've been thinking about a CCW gun. I had been thinking about a p11, but i really liked that glock. More than i thought i would. The .40 was impressive too. Not quite as easy to shoot as fast as a 9mm i'm sure (i can only compare it to my 9mm, which isnt really fair, its more gun), but i felt like i was doing alright with it (making cans dance at ~7yds at a decent pace) and more power felt good. The trigger was better than i expected, and will certainly be tons better than the p11.

Trouble is its more expensive (almost double the kel-tec) and the highly unlikely, but possible kB thing. Is this an unfounded concern or should i look at a 9mm as suggested in other threads? How does a 27 compare to a 26? Are they the same size? Would recoil be considerably less? All i see are 10 round mags, do they make (or will they be able to make in sep) any larger cap mags for a 26?

So..thoughts, comments, opinions on a 26, 27, kel-tec p11? Suggestions on other good carry guns under $500 (the further 'under' the better)?

Well, for whats it's worth, and this is "my" opinion:eek: ,I had one,(G27)and even with the grip extension,I could not for the life of me get a comfortable grip on the darn thing:rolleyes: Sold it to my friend and bought a BHP 9mm and never looked back:D

I have found the 26 easier to use on follow up shots than the 27. It's my warm weather carry gun. I use a Glock 19 mag as a spare and the 26 will take the 19 and 17 mags. BTW, the 27 will do the same with the 22 and 23 mags. I carry a 23 in the cooler weather, but feel very comfy with the 26 should I need it.

Both his mags had extensions, but only one was molded as a finger groove. The other went back at an angle, straight. I wouldnt say the grip was 100% comfortable, maybe 90%. Comfortable enough that i shot pretty darn well with it. I knew it might be my only chance to shoot one if i ended up looking at them so i gave him a few bucks and shot about 50 rounds through it.

I dont seem to have a problem with odd/small grips though. I have big hands and can shoot my p32 just fine, naa .22s even, beretta 25s (although its been awhile and when i held one this weekend the web of my hand was in a direct path of the slide) :what:

Have you shot both? I know the 9mm would have less recoil but i'm not sure how much less. This was my first time shooting 40 so i'm not sure how much of the increase in recoil was from the round and how much was from the shorter barrel, smaller gun. Would have been nice to have a 26 to shoot next to it.

Of course both are a lot more than a p11, unless i found one used. Bigger too.

Decisions decisions.

IMHO, get the Glock. Don't look back. I might consider the G26 if you're used to 9mm though. I had a 27 and currently carry a 23, but it's always nice to have multiple pistols but common ammo.

You could also go the route of buying the 27 and later getting a Bar-Sto 9mm conversion barrel for it. That way you could have the best of both worlds :)

Honestly, I think you'll be happier with a Glock than with a P11. The Kel-Tec is a decent weapon, but the Glock is better. It WILL always go bang when you pull the trigger.

As for the KB thing, almost totally hype. If you stay away from lead bullets and shoot only factory ammo (to reduce the chance of a double-charged reload) you will not have any problems. between my 27 and my 23, I've put thousands of rounds of jacketed factory ammo downrange and NEVER had any type of malfunction much less a KB.

But that's just me. :)

I had both the 26 and 27 for a while. I sold the 26 because it was not much easier for me to shoot than the 27. The felt recoil was different, but the 26 did not offer anything that was leaps and bounds better than the 27.

I plan to get a 9mm conversion barrel so I can run 9mm through the 27 for practice, and just cause I want it too. :D That was my excuse for selling the 26, well the money helped out as well.

One thing with the glocks is that you can swap the glock 27 barrel with the 357 sig version, I forget the number of it but it is 30 something I guess. This is a straight swap with factory glock barrels. You could also buy aftermarket barrels as well in either caliber.

The 9mm does not have the option of swapping around to other calibers, you can buy aftermarket barrels in 9mm though. The aftermarket barrels have conventional rifling and are generally considered better to use if shooting lead rounds.

As for the reliability and what not, pay attention to the care of the gun and don't run lead bullets in a polygonal barrel and you should do fine. One thing to keep in mind if you buy used is to run some searches on the "not called a recall, recall." There was a problem with one of the slide guides or something breaking, the gun still worked but when you took it apart for cleaning you found out it was broken. I avoid any potential recall guns and have no problem owning a glock. They are reliable and super simple and the finish handles anything.

My G27 .40 has not missfired or jamed from day one.I have the .357 barrel and a .22 kit.Called Glock and they said a 9mm barrel won't fit in the G27 so who is right? Do they mean their Glock 9mm barrel not the Bar sto? Anyone put a 9mm barrel in their G27?
Let me know how it works.Thanks.

I know the glock is better in terms of reliability and the trigger. The kel-tec has it beat in size, weight, and cost.

I was just browsing around on glock talk and saw the extension covers for the 9mm highcaps (forget the model #) that fit in the 26. 15 rounds would be great for the range or when the short grip isnt really needed (or as a back-up mag as many use them). I know they have this for the kel-tec as well (to 12 at least), but the glock trigger makes a much more friendly range gun.

The only reason i'm comparing the two is cost really. I can buy the p11 tomorrow, order a IWB holster, and send away for a FL CCW permit. With the glock, it would be a stretch to even buy the gun.

Leaning a little towards the p11 again.

RE: CCW .40S&W

Since small grips (i.e. 2 finger with the pinky tucked under the mag) don't seem to bother you, may I suggest a CZ RAMI in 40S&W? It's typical CZ quality, reliable and about $100 less than a Glock. It's DA/SA, good trigger, and can be carried cocked/locked with the safety on, or carried with the hammer down or at 1/2 cock (either way is safe, it has a firing pin block). I've had many Glocks (including G19, G26, G33, etc), but I much prefer the grip angle of the CZ's. The RAMI is about the same physical size of the G27, but it weights about 5 oz more than the G27, which really helps in taming the muzzle flip for the .40S&W round.

Just a suggestion.

Just a suggestion.
Hey, the more the better.

Although on my trip to my goal of finding a gun, i'm apparently taking the wrong path. The number of guns i'm looking at is increasing. Doh. :D

Handled a Kahr PM9 today next to a glock 26. Quite a bit smaller, trigger isnt as good but it isnt anything that would bother me. Only holds 6+1 though.

Place had the PM9s for low 500s, dont remember, and the 26 was $495 IIRC. They had a used 26 for $445.

I need a used 26 for $350. :p

I've owned both. First the 27 and now the 26. Both are great guns but if you want faster follow up shots I'd go with the 26. It's the one I carry on a daily basis and don't regret it.

I’m more accurate and enjoy shooting my Glock 26 more than my P-11. However the P-11 is my daily carry for weight and size.

Thanks for all the help/thoughts/opinions/suggestions guys.

I ended up putting some money down today on a parkerized kel-tec P-11. Price wasnt great, but not horrible ($276 total with a belt clip). Should be here in like 5 days they said. Just couldnt get over the cost difference, and finally convinced myself i cant afford 400+ on a gun now.

Just got out of college though, hopefully i'll have a good job within the next year and i can then look at some of these finer toys everyone suggested. :)

I got my Glock 27 for $398 brand new in box, and love the gun. Would rather shoot the 27 rather than the 22 and 26 at ranges out to 30 feet. Just learn to get proficient in using the grip. And I have no problems keeping the sights on target when unloading a mag. Great gun, IMO.

Before you get the Glock, be sure you look at the Kahr P40 & PM40 or K40 & MK40 if you want steel frame and a bit more weight. Significantly thinner than a Glock.

Since I got my PM40 I rarely need to carry my Kel-Tec P3AT. PM40 is heavier and thicker than the P3AT such that as long as I'm wearing a belt I can carry the PM40 instead.
