I just spent $1200 on a Saiga 12 and I am purchasing a Saiga 308, but I want an AR too. I don't have much money left so I figured I could save some money by building one using this kit: http://e-sarcoinc.com/ar15m16partskitminuslowerwteloscopingstock.aspx. The reason I want this gun is for general plinking, to be able to shoot .233 (cheaper than .308), and to use the SSAR-15 slide fire stock. Any advice, info, criticism is appreciated. Thanks.

You buy a cheap gun and you get big headaches.

Save your money and don't buy something until you can afford it. If we were talking about an ankle gun b/c you were an LEO then I'd say charge it; but since that isn't what we are talking about: "act your wage".

Check out rguns.net and take a look at their kits. I bought an upper and lpk from them and am very pleased. From what I understand the customer service isn't all that great, but the prices are.

I'd certainly say get the best gun you can for your money but if plinking is the only purpose buying one of the cheap-o kits is okay. I've heard nothing but good about Delton and i believe their bolts are even MPI. On the other hand, for not much more you could get a SW which is very close to milspec although a Colt would be a better choice and can be had for just under a grand.

Hey, Hunterdad - thanks. I had not heard of rguns. Was going to get my upper from Model1, but rguns seems like a better deal and includes the bolt, etc.

I've built a few. I like Del-Ton. They were great to deal with. Got what I ordered and they were very nice through the process. I've ordered with similar sites that you shared, and although I haven't gotten ripped off, I had to wait 6 months and got stuff that I could have ordered independantly anyway. stick with known good companies. Del-ton is one of them.
