I am looking at a sig P229 in 9mm. It comes with three mags and has night sights. It is in like new condition and has been fired very little. It is $550. I have two questions. Is that a good price? Is there anything I should be looking for or checking on this pistol? Thanks in advance.

Give them $500 OTD CASH Check the smile on the barrel....

It can be an indicator or wear. I like to take the grips off.... lots of guys clean the outside of their guns.... under the grips can tell a lot. Should be nothing there if it sat in a safe. If there is lint or or debris then look closer.

In general the P229 is a sold gun...

P229...

Have one and love it... along with my CZ P-01, they are my best and most ACCURATE shoots!!!
It's a good price but I would tend to lean toward a factory CPO (Certified Previously Owned) for the Sig warranty... and they're about $550 to an FFL (check w/ Mark @ Summit Guns or Top Gun Supply).

Decent price but not great. If you keep looking you can get a certified used one in the red box just back from the factory with a warranty for that price. Check the rails for scratches and grooves. Small scratches are o.k., but beware of lots of wear. The rails are the one thing that can't be replaced/repaired on a Sig.

Excellent price. My friend paid $800 for a new stainless about 2 years ago. It's a very soft shooting 9mm, barely had any recoil to speak of. I like the fatter grip over my 220 as well.

Sigs are absolutely fantastic. You will never find a nicer gun for that price. And at that price, if you for some crazy reason do not like it you will have no problem getting rid of it without taking a loss.

I have the 229 in .40 and it is a sweet shooter. If I could trade it for a 229 in 9mm of comprable condition I would jump on it like a toad would jump off of a hot skillet. Also if I could stretch the plastic any farther If I found one for that price I'd "Glom on to it" as Festus would say quicker than a cautus would stick you.

I'd say with 3 mags and night sights that it is a good deal if the condition is as described.
Give it a solid look over(bring an unbiased friend along).
Just because you can get a CPO a little cheaper(assuming you can find one) doesn't make a CPO better,CPO's are still used guns with some new parts and you have no way of knowing what was and wasn't replaced.

YES !!! Buy it now!!! My friend sold his H&K P30 for $550- to a gun shop cause he needed $$. It had less than 100 round through it. What gets me the most, He didn't even ask me first. :fire:

I have a 229 in .40 (DA/SA) with TTF sights, LaserMax, "short" trigger (and the old "long" one), 6 mags --- and a 9mm BarSto barrel. It functions flawlessly in either caliber.

After going through a bunch of other equipment, I've come to the (sad) conclusion that my hand will never quite fit the 229 properly, no matter which grips I use.

That having been said ...

(If this is inappropriate, someone please yell at me?)
