I have 2 Sig 229's, identical. I rarely carry them.

I have 2 Glock 17's, I carry them daily but probably won't as much this summer.

My question is, should I sell or trade one of my Glocks to try somthing smaller like a Walther P99 for Summer carry? or should I save my pennies and nickels and just buy one?

I can't bring myself to sell the Sigs, they were my first LEO weapons.

I've come to understand the Glock 17 will last longer than me, so why have 2?

I'm so torn....

Unless you are desperate for cash, never sell any firearm you still have a use for. Otherwise you will end up starting a thread later whining about how you never should have sold anything.

Save up and buy more.

And what is with this Walther P99 stuff? How will you ever be able to top your last adventure unless you get at least a .50 Desert Eagle, or maybe a S&W .500?

:neener:

Why not sell one to get another? That is the way us regular folks can afford to try different guns.

I have been able to try many types of guns through buying/selling/trading that I otherwise would not have been able to afford. I feel that the knowledge I have gained was well worth the losses of money and good guns. It is only by hindsight that I really grew to know which guns I like. I have spent the last 10 years trying to find what I like in guns and now I have it pretty much narrowed down. I will always try something new but I hope that most of my mistakes are behind me.

My best advice is, don't buy based on price. Buy guns that you like. Buy guns that fit your hand well. Buy guns in calibers that you enjoy shooting and can afford to shoot. Unless you reload, 10mm and .44Mag gets to be pretty pricy to spend all day shooting. Buy guns from manufactures with good reps and buy models that have good reps. Wait a few years before buying a new model or buying from a new maker.

I never understood having multiples of the same guns, especially plastics like Glocks. I sold my G17 3 years ago and never looked back. It was the first gun I ever owned but I just couldn't develop any attachment to a Glock. Sell one of your G17's and buy a P99. You will not regret it.

i would save more money and just get another gun. i would never sell a gun unless my safe could not close.........no i would just get a bigger safe :neener:

Why'd you get two Glocks of the same model in the first place? If that reason is mute, go ahead and sell one off. Though, I think a P99 would be a nice addition, and it isn't like they function a ton different, if you think you can survive with only one G17, then sell it.

Walther P 99

What does it have really to distinguish itself from a Glock
17??

Is it better hand fit? Is it more accurate? Is it sized better for you?

I just can't get attracted to Walther and recognize it is personal not technical. Glock experience has taught me they are just plain hard to beat if they fit your hand.

AS for as selling one of two guns to get something really different is a great idea. I have done this many times with not regret because I thought it thru before I sold it,
not afterwards as so many seem to do.

I find that I generally agree with what albanian describes of his own experiences, although I sometimes want to kick myself for the $$$ that I feel I've lost in trades.

I guess I'll see about handling a Walther first. I would like somthing a little smaller than a 17 but with just about the same weight and accuracy. Glock 19 DOES NOT fit my hand for crap.

So the .500 snubbie is a no go?

:neener:

Look at the G26, then the Springfield XD in its various sizes. Lots of pistols out there.

If I had duplicates of a tool like a Glock, I would have no hesitation on selling one to fund something else. I like Glocks, I use them, they are my friends, but they are just tools. One is like another. It is not as if I were selling a collectible. Now, if there is some particular personal attachment that may trump the thought, but I say sell and experiment.

On the other hand, as to models you have just one of, it would have to be a particularly excellent reason to sell my sole copy. I did that once...a new Glock 21. I am one of the whiners that regretted it. I lost money replacing it. Never again.

I adhere to a simple creed

Don't sell or trade guns you like to buy something you've "gotta have"...you'll be sorry

If you find you have a gun that has lost it's luster for whatever reason, put it back into circulation so someone else can enjoy it. Take said proceeds and spend them wisely ;)

Thanks guys....

NMShooter...naw the .500 Mag is out. I couldn't find HydraShocks for it. :p

NMShooter....after that 10mm incident....I'd like to keep my bullets smaller than a 1/2 inch. :p

Selling any gun is all but out of the question for me - been there, done that, regretted for ever!

However ... in this case ... I could imagine myself parting with a spare Glock ... and, I have a SW99 which is to all intents a P99 ... great compact gun ... not really comparable to anything else. I am still familiarizing with the ergonomucs but - it is a very nice and relaible gun to shoot ... once more familiar, it will be amongst my carry choices.
