Should I sell my prebans before they drop in value?

I've got a few preban guns: Norinco AK hunter,
a tricked out marlin 9mm carbine and a Spas 12.

I understand the prebans are worth a lot more and I'm wondering if I should sell them before the AWB expires (hopefully) or just hold onto them and eat whatever value loss comes about.

I'm not particularly attached to these preban guns and would like
to buy a mauser broomhandle, a garand or an M1A.

I would like some advice from the folks on THR on what to do.

If you're really not interested in these firearms, then definetely sell them. If you don't like them, then best case is that guns you don't want keep their value. The worst case is that they lose value.

The money received will pay for firearms you really want.

Keep 'em!

Bush is in his "Give-Democrats-anything-they-want-to-shut-them-up" mode.

I am not the least convinced we've seen the end of AWB. Make enough noise and Bush will cave in to anything.

He and his merry corp of spinelessrepublicans is about to hoist on the taxpaying a $200 billion drug bill, a bill that will cover only 17% of medicate victims.

Do ya like 'em? If so hang on, the AWB might not sunset. If you don't then sell, sell, sell. Then buy something you do want.

You have no reason to believe the AWB will die. Politicians can't be trusted. GW's daddy screwed you. In all likelyhood so will his son. Buy the Garand from the CMP(shoot the matches and have fun doing so), sell your car for the Broomhandle and the M1A. Ok trade one of your pre-bans for the M1A and then worry about the broomhandle.

Well the thing is..

I like these pre-ban guns just fine but:

the AK hunter has a crappy slap trigger and sights that block out the whole target. (hunter my A$$) My SAR1 is a much better shooter.

Spas 12 is overly complicated and the semi auto only works with heavy loads and the metal folding stock hurts like hell with slugs.

My browning auto 5 is a better semi auto

The marlin carbine has had the recoil buffer and springs replaced 2 times and the front sight hood keeps flying off.

I can do about the same with my Beretta or my Taurus PT99.

So I was thinking instead of letting these safe queens gather dust/ rust I could possibly sell them and get some quality guns that are more functional.

Of couse the drawback would be if the AWB doesn't sunset and gets worse. then these guns would probably shoot up in value
like machineguns after 86.

I think your second posting dated June 13th shows that you have better reasons to consider selling some of the prebans than just the fact that the bans may be lifted. If I didn't like something I'd sell it and not hang on to it just because any possible future goverment action.

"Don't follow anyone unless you know where they are going".

I'm even more confused now.

I've always been told selling guns is a bad thing.

Maybe I should learn to like them :D

At the very least I will sell the norinco because its not pretty
not well designed and I bought it from a friend in financial trouble
not because I wanted it.

Thanks for the comments they indeed offer food for thought.

Selling guns you are not too excited about or that you have multiples of sounds like a good thing to me. Especially now that you can get a good price for them vs. in a year when they potentially are worth nothing.

The one thing everyone is forgeting is that the new AW ban the liberals are cooking up is even more restrictive than the PRK ban. What does that mean? If it passes, all of your guns become worthless! Why? You have to register them and if it is like the PRK ban, you cannot trade them, sell them, do anything to them except to a licensed dealer. What do you think that is going to do to the prices? Plus you will have to be stuck with them forever, sell them illegally, or sell them for next to nothing to a FFL.

Get what you want. Someone out there wants your guns, let them have them.
